| Sustainable Water Use2 Introduction Sound water policy is smart economic, environmental and social policy. The sustainable use of the Territorys scarce water resources is crucial for the health of our rivers and waterways and the ecosystems that rely on them. Its also the only way to ensure the ongoing strength and viability of the many businesses and industries that rely on this resource. Our water resources also present important regional economic development opportunities for many communities across the Territory Failure to follow science puts at risk the many recreational activities loved by Territorians and visitors alike, especially fishing. It also puts our environment and the long term viability of many important industries at risk. Labor in Government has a strong record of respecting science, listening to the community and allocating water fairly through an open and transparent process. A future Labor Governments water policy will be guided by these values again. Michael Gunner Territory Labor Leader
