26 FISHING WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 3 2016 SUBE01Z01MA - V1 January 31, from Moon Billabong down to the mouth. Several boats were caught fishing in the closure zone. As of Monday, it became legal to travel down past Moon Billabong to fish some of the more popular creeks, including Clear Creek. It will probably be worth a run down to Clear if the weather is not too bad. Watch weather if venturing out to the mouth of the Mary QUITE a few anglers fished the Daly over the weekend and up to Australia Day, with generally poor results. The river has started to rise again and sits at around 4.5m over the crossing at the time of writing. On the plus side, as the river rises the run-offs rate of flow will slow a little and hopefully the water clarity will improve. But the major concern, as always at this time of year, is the lack of bait fish around. As we head into February the amount of baitfish coming off the floodplains should start to increase. With another monsoon predicted to settle in soon, we can only hope more water will fall on the floodplains and the river will continue to rise. There was a seasonal closure on the Daly up to If the rain settles in again, then the river will probably rise quickly after copping such a massive flood in December. The neap tides will also see another onslaught of boats heading to the mouth of the Mary this week. The river levels have dropped substantially, so be aware of this before planning a trip to launch your boat at Shady Camp. You will most probably need at least half tide to launch there now. If you are fishing the mouth make sure you have a look at the weather conditions before travelling that far. Normally the westerlies will increase as a monsoon trough develops. Rough weather at the mouth is not only uncomfortable, but will make it more difficult to land a fish as water clarity is greatly diminished. A nice-sized barra takes to the air at the Daly CHRIS ERRITY As we head into February the amount of baitfish coming off the floodplains should start to increase HOPE YOU HOOK UP ON THE WEEKEND!
