Stuart, who left Parramatta to coach the Raiders after the sacking of David Furner, has wasted no time stamping his authority on his new team, training them in 40C heat and sending them to a week-long elite training camp. The former NSW and Australia coach has seen big potential for McCrone at hooker. Faith inMoses to deliver title MOSES Wigness has taken over the reins again at Brothers Rugby League club for the 2014 season. Wigness, who coached the club for three years and won the 2010 and 2011 premierships, replaces Anthoiny Castro who had held the position for the past two seasons. The clubs seniors sign-on day is at Airport Tavern today from 1pm. Brothers spokesman John Adams said the club wanted to regain the premiership that they lost to Palmerston last year. New rules to endmass debates MANLY coach Geoff Toovey says captain Jamie Lyon wont have to change his on-field approach to referees despite recent NRL rule changes. Lyon and Canterburys Michael Ennis are seen as two of the games leading debaters when it comes to arguing with match officials. But they are set to be stymied by a new law that limits where and when captains can speak to refs. Under new rules captains will only be able to speak to refs during a stoppage in play. Lachlan schooled by Shark RUGBY LEAGUE ByDOUGBOOTH MacKillop Sharks centre Levi Russell with student Lachlan Miller at the merger announcement yesterday Picture: JUSTIN SANSON LACHLAN Miller wants to play senior rugby league when he grows up. The MacKillop Catholic College student discovered plenty of ways to help him reach that goal from the now MacKillop Sharks hardtackling centre Levi Russell yesterday. Lachlan, 13, and Russell, 22, were integral parts of the launch to merge the Sharks with the Palmerstonbased college. I like rugby league because of the teamwork that is involved in playing, said Lachlan, who has been playing the game for four years. It is not just a one-man game. I like running with the ball and scoring tries. Russell said young players such as Lachlan were the future of the 13-a-side game. We are looking for a premiership this season and building links such as this is vital for the future, he said. College principal Loretta Graham said MacKillop was trying to build a community spirit through sporting organisations and this was another step forward. David Graham is the Year 8 music co-ordinator at MacKillop but his other passion is rugby league. Growing up in Cairns, he played his first rugby league in Queensland and last year he was with the Palmerston Raiders. However, as the brainchild behind the merger of the school and club, he has new allegiances. The Palmerston demographic is much different to Darwin, Graham said. Queensland and NSW influence the culture. Graham said the merger would help provide a grassroots pathway that had not existed before in rugby league in the Northern Territory. It is important that we try and bridge the gap between school and club, he said. The Sharks will hold their senior sign-on at Mary MacKillop School today from 10am. At Adelaide, the Crows were continually punished by former Australia cycling coach Charlie Walsh, and the pain still lingers. So when Geelongs boom recruit met Cadel Evans early one morning at Torquay beach, and the prospect of riding in the Tour de France champions Great Ocean Road Peoples Ride was raised, Dangerfields horror memories came flooding back. After four or five seasons with Charlie Walsh at Adelaide, as long as theres no Ergos (exercise bike) Im a chance, but the stationary bike isnt exactly my friend, Dangerfield said. We smashed the bike, it did deter me. Evans interjects: If I can just interrupt, I think anyone, bike rider or non-bike rider, after that long a time training New Cat gets back on bike with Charlie would probably hate the bike. Actually, we did do quite a few team activities, wed do a team bonding weekend, and we did do bike races, Dangerfield says. The only thing was that a few of us that would lead each group would end up being the ones that were still at the front by the end of it the blokes that were supposed to finish strongly were useless. I remember Jonathon Griffin, he was supposed to be our gun rider, he started at the back and finished at the back and we rode at the front the whole time. I actually really enjoyed that, that was really good fun. The star midfielder asks the cycling champ about a famous Jens Voigt quote: Shut up legs. We had that put on our shorts in the pre-season with Charlie, every time youd look down and you were knackered youd see shut up legs, Dangerfield said. Together, Evans and Dangerfield are putting the Great Ocean Road on the map as much as the 12 Apostles. Evans race is starting to lure some of cyclings biggest names to the region, while the year-long saga surrounding Dangerfields future this year made the tiny hamlet of Moggs Creek a well-known town across the footy world. They both agree that getting the miles into the legs is much easier along the coast than it is in South Australia. Its pretty easy to do the kilometres down here, Adelaides good but down here its just a pleasure, Evans said. So what does Dangerfield ask someone like Evans when they cross paths? We were talking more about things that are external from the sports were involved in, Dangerfield said. Obviously Cadels retired now but you can still see that hes still very passionate about the sport that hes really put on the map in Australia. Picture: PETE RISTEVSKI Jets hold on to stay in AFC race THE New York Jets kept themselves firmly in the AFC playoff race by slipping past the Dallas Cowboys 19-16 on Saturday at AT & T Stadium. The win puts them a halfgame up in the AFC Wild Card standings over Kansas City and Pittsburgh, who are both 8-5 and play today. New York survived a late comeback from the Cowboys, who nailed a 50-yard field goal through Dan Bailey to level the scores at 16 with 1:55 left. But Jets kicker Randy Bullock atoned for an earlier miss by nailing a 40-yarder with 36 seconds remaining for the win. New York quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 26 of 39 passes for 299 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. He also engineered the 58yard offensive movement to allow for Bullocks field goal, largely through a 43-year strike to receiver Kenbrell Thompkins down the sideline. Jets receiver Brandon Marshall starred with 74 yards on four catches, while fellow receiver Eric Decker had 55 yards on six receptions, including a three-yard score that put New York up 16-13 earlier in the fourth quarter. The loss means the Cowboys are eliminated from playoff contention, slipping to 4-10. Dallas made it a game behind backup quarterback Kellen Moore, who saw his first live game action since starring at Boise State. The fourth-year pro nearly overcame three picks by leading the Cowboys to 13 points after replacing starting quarterback Matt Cassel, who was ineffective in four series. Moore finished 15 of 25 for 158 yards. His final interception sealed the Jets victory, despite the fact the Cowboys led 10-9 at halftime.
