Abstract
Six investigation bores were drilled on the south eastern side of the Daly Basin. The main target was the Tindall Limestone. The maximum thickness of the formation encountered was 141m near Larrimah but on the basin’s eastern margin it thins rapidly and productive aquifers are unlikely to be found within 15km of the eastern extent of the Tindall Limestone. Air lift yields were generally low due to poor circulation of the drilling fluids in the cavernous limestone. Water intersections were encountered at various levels throughout the thickness of the formation. The aquifer has a covering of Cretaceous aged clay and sand in all of the bores. That layer ranges between 21 and 87m thick and will reduce potential recharge.
Groundwater quality is suitable for human consumption and livestock. The TDS is relatively high for irrigation purposes and it should not be used on soils with restricted drainage. Salt tolerance of the plants to be irrigated must be considered.,
