FRIDAY OCTOBER 23 2015 ENTERTAINMENT 17 V1 - NTNE01Z01MA Australia reels in two blockbusters for 2016 CANBERRA: Two big-budget blockbuster films, including the next Marvel superhero Thor instalment, will be filmed in Australia from next year. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop announced yesterday a deal to film Ragnarok starring Chris Hemsworth (pictured) and an untitled Alien film by director Ridley Scott on home soil. The Federal Government will chip in $47 million as a sweetener to attract an estimated $300 million in foreign investment. The contribution in effect increases the 16.5 per cent location offset to 30 per cent. The two films are expected to create 3000 direct jobs for Australians. As well as being a skill development opportunity, there could be a significant tourism spin-off as a result of the films being made in Australia, Ms Bishop said. The films are a product of recent trips to the United States during which the Foreign Minister spruiked Australias highly qualified creative workforce, innovative technology, stable economy and low dollar. Arts Minister Mitch Fifield said every job created in the film and television industry supported 3.57 jobs in other industries. He said Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull had taken a minute-by-minute interest in the development. Senator Fifield revealed that while briefing Cabinet on the film announcement he had to declare a conflict of interest because in the first Prometheus movie there was a character called Fifield. Cabinet colleague Christopher Pyne had replied: Yes but he died. So for the moment Im still standing on my feet, Senator Fifield joked. Hemsworth, in a video message, said he was de lighted to be coming home from Los Angeles for work. Walt Disney executive Mary Ann Hughes said the company was thrilled to be working in Australia again after a wonderful experience this year filming Pirates of the Caribbean 5. She brushed off the ongoing quarantine controversy surrounding the films star Johnny Depp and a biosecurity breach with his dogs, which is still before a Gold Coast court. Filming will start in 2016. LISA MARTIN Future looks rosy for happy couple FROM the moment he stepped foot into The Bachelorette mansion, Sasha Mielczarek was the odds-on favourite to win Sam Frosts final rose. And while the happy couple did indeed de clare their love for each other in the season finale, there was a time Mielczarek came close to quitting the televised love search. H a l f w a y through (filming the show) I had a bit of a meltdown, confessed the construction worker, 30. They didnt show it on TV but I said, Hey, I need some help here, I dont know what to do. But while Frost, 26, had managed to talk other contenders through their doubts during the series, she froze when Mielczarek asked for advice. I was like, Oh God, hes going to leave and I was terrified, she said. I was so upset I couldnt even console him. Fortunate ly , Mielczarek came out the other side and the pair found the happy ending theyd both been hoping for. The duo have managed to catch up most weekends in secret, which has seen their relationship continue to strengthen. But until now, only a small selection of people outside of the production crew have been privy to how the show ended. Mielczarek con fided in his parents and a close friend while Frost let her sister Kristine and brothers Steve and Alex know theyd found love. Despite the secrecy though, Frost said one family member came very close to revealing the top-secret ending. I thought my niece (twoyear-old Bridie) was going to be the spoiler, she laughed. Shell see my face at the supermarket on magazines and point and say, Aunty Sam and Sasha! Meanwhile, Mielczarek said he faced a different problem when it came to magazine headlines, especially the one that declared he and Frost were expecting a baby together. My Nan rang me up and said, Oh my God Sasha, I am so excited Im going to be a great-grandmother! And I was like, Nan, its not true. She was heartbroken. As for whether babies are now on the horizon, Frost said theres no timeline, but if it were up to Mielczarek shed be knocked up tomorrow. The Bachelorette has been a ratings success for Channel 10.
