This alone will see funding available to amelioration programs roughly double in just two years from $1 million in 2013-2014 to $2 million in 2015-2016 and will provide a significant boost to alleviating gambling issues. Amelioration grants support community organisations to promote awareness and education about problem gambling and deliver counselling, rehabilitation or support services to sufferers and their families. SKYCITY Darwin Acting General Manager Callum Mallett said he welcomed the new measures. SKYCITY Darwin is an advocate of responsible gambling and we see it as our responsibility as a licenced operator to support and implement any initiatives that will lessen its impact on the community, Mr Mallett said. AHA Northern Territory Chief Executive Officer Des Crowe said its members will embrace Responsible Gambling Awareness Week. Hotels and Licenced Clubs participate in initiatives like this as an effective approach to preventing and minimising the harm that can result from problem gambling, he said. Amitys Gambling Programme Coordinator Nicola Coalter said the program will run from October 12 to 18. This years theme is Know When to Take a Break because being habit-wise maintains a healthy lifestyle, she said.
