Starting what will be a huge weekend of automotive action, the street parade will see all entrants drive their cars through the streets of Alice Springs in a massive convoy. The parade will start at the Alice Springs Motor Vehicle Registry at 5.30pm today. It will head through the centre of town to Blatherskite Park where the cars will arrive just in time for the beginning of the Sun 969 Rock N Rumble Concert. Participating in the parade will be motorsport legends Jason Bright and Marcos Ambrose, together with television personality Mark Beretta. Bright is a star of the V8 Supercars Championship, while Ambrose returned to Australia at the beginning of this year from a stellar NASCAR career and will be driving for the Dick Johnson Penske team in this years V8 Supercar Endurance events. NT Chief Minister Adam Giles will also be part of the parade. All vehicles participating in the parade need to be registered as entrants and have a registered vehicle or a temporary licence. Entrants will need to be at the Alice Springs MVR by 5pm to participate. World first for brutal power ALICE Springs will vibrate, rumble and roar like never before when Peter Gray unleashes his 8000 horsepower Top Fuel-engined Holden Monaro machine this evening at the Red CentreNATS. The motor is an ex-Darren Morgan Top Fuel drag unit and its a world first ever to use one of these awesome power plants in a burnout car. As a drag engine, it doesnt run any coolant but will consume nitro fuel at the rate of 80 litres for a two-and-a-half to three-minute show. This ultimate and worlds most powerful burnout machine doesnt use a gearbox and transmits it power to the ground via a 91/2 diff with 30spline axles. The rear tyres are 33-inch Mastercraft off-road units, and Peter is bringing plenty with him. The car is a new addition to the Gray stable and is a fully certified doorslammer with tube chassis and fibreglass body that can be removed superfast to change tyres and check on the mechanicals. The two-distributor twoplug-per-cylinder power plant takes a team of three people plus the driver to fire up. A rigger and dogman during the week, Peter and wife Deb are burnout royalty and the good news is that Deb will also be at the Red CentreNATS competing in the Burnout Masters in her 1100hp supercharged, fuel-injected Camaro running on methanol. The Grays reckon they got burnout brain damage after they first competed at Summernats in a Corolla called Jap Attack. As multiple Summernats winners since then, they have come a long way to the 8000hp monster that they will be debuting at the Red CentreNATS. The car will be unveiled at 6.25pm during the SunFM Rock N Rumble Concert at Blatherskite Park. Christine Douglas with her 1977 Moke Californian she will drive in the parade. Picture: JUSTIN KENNEDY Stoked with her Moke little car to drive. My husband Dave gave it to me for a 60th birthday present almost a year ago. It was all restored when I received it so I have only had to do general maintenance. The Red CentreNATS will be great for the town and the parade will be good with all the different vehicles. The Red CentreNATS program begins today with registrations at Lasseters from 5.30pm followed by a free outdoor showing of the family movie Cars on the lawns. Vehicles can be entered for a NATS event at the registrations. Steve Menzies Party to cap off a top weekend THE final event of the Red CentreNATS is the Last Blast Podium Party on Sunday. After the smoke has cleared from the burnout and drag comps and the show cars have been put away, it will be party time at the Red CentreNATS. Everyone is invited to the Alice Springs Convention Centre on Sunday night to celebrate a great weekend and toast the winners. The majority of prizes and trophies will be presented during the evening, and awards such as the Red CentreNATS Champion will also be announced. Its definitely something not to miss and will give those attending a chance to mix with some of the Red CentreNATS top entrants Pre-dinner drinks commence at 6pm, followed by a buffet dinner and entertainment. Dress is neat casual. Reserve a seat or table at ntmajorevents .com.au/store or contact major.events@ nt.gov.au or buy at Gate 1 at Blatherskite Park. NOT all the vehicles in the street parade through Alice Springs for the Red CentreNATS on Friday will be expensive or aged Mustangs, Corvettes, Holdens, Fords and the like. Taking its place among the big and powerful vehicles will be the classic 1977 Mini Moke Californian of Christine Douglas. It is a classic car its 38 years old, she said. There are a few Mini Mokes around town but you dont see many in the cities. It is a great Falcons a Shier delight CRAIG Shier is joining the more than 400 fellow entrants in the inaugural Red CentreNATS with his 1970 XW Falcon ute (pictured). He has owned the muchadmired classic for seven years and previously entered it in a Shannon Show N Shine a couple of years ago. It is fantastic having the Red CentreNATS here, Mr Shier said.
