WEDNESDAY JULY 15 2015 SPORT 31 V1 - SUBE01Z01MA akis are as close as ever. All the boys get along real ly well and once everyone comes together its just business as usual, he said. As he prepares to play potentially his last Davis Cup matches this weekend, Hewitt also stressed the importance of the next generation of players appreciating Australias Davis Cup history. Australia has won 28 Davis Cup titles and is the second most successful nation in the tournaments history, behind America. You have some of your biggest highs in tennis, and biggest lows and disappointments in tennis in Davis Cup because youre not just playing for yourself, youre playing for your team on the bench, and also the nation. Top Doorslammer drivers ready to rumble FOR the first time in the ANDRA Drag Racing Series, Hidden Valley Drag Strip will host not one but two Top Doorslammer Championship rounds, as the 2015/2016 season kicks off this weekend. Attracting 15 Doorslammers alongside seven Top Alcohol funny cars, and dragsters alongside the two-car Top Fuel tandem of Rapisarda Auto sport International, the first event will electrify the crowd. Then, on August 14 and 15, Top Doorslammer will return for Round 2 in what is set to be another bumper field of the worlds fastest supercharged V8 sedans racing door to door. Palmerston local and 1957 Chev Top Doorslammer driver Matt Abel said Hidden Valley Drag Racing Association and the NT Government had helped to build the profile of the sport and attract the ANDRA Drag Racing Series for the third year in a row. Drag racing is going from strength to strength up here, he said. New cars just keep turning up and the club up here do a good job at promoting and running the events. Im excited to say the least about two rounds in Darwin. The weather is fantastic up here at this time of the year, the track is first class and the Darwin spectators are passionate about Doorslammers. One year ago Abel qualified second behind now eight-time champion John Zappia, racing to the semi finals where he was eliminated by eventual runner up Stuart Bishop. No bar to hopes of cup team DAVIS Cup captain Wally Masur says Nick Kyrgios is Australias spearhead, not a potential problem for this weeks quarter-final tie against Kazakhstan in Darwin. When Kyrgios was asked at a team media conference on Tuesday whether his recent controversies at Wimbledon and since could make him a liability for the Australian team, Masur jumped in, calling the situation in London unfortunate. Nick a liability for the Davis Cup? Absolutely not, Masur said. Hes here, hes got the green and gold on, hes one hell of a tennis player. That doesnt make him a liability, it actually makes him the spearhead. Meanwhile, Lleyton Hewitt insists the removal of Bernard Tomic and the media storm surrounding Kyrgios has not disrupted the teams preparation, and that the four players himself, Sam Groth, Kyrgios and Thanassi Kokkin Nick a liability for the Davis Cup?
