FRIDAY MAY 22 2015 NEWS 11 V1 - NTNE01Z01MA Darwin CBD best spot to hunt bargain THE Darwin CBD has been named as the best buyers market in the Northern Territory by realestate.com.au. Darwin beat out Stuart Park, Katherine and Gillen to take the top spot as the suburb offering the most favourable conditions for buyers, including fewer people looking per listing and more affordable price points. Daniel Banks, a finance broker looking for an investment property in the Darwin area, said hearing the city was a buyers market made him more inclined to check out properties for sale in the CBD. Now would be the best time to buy, before everyone clues on to it being a buyers market, he said. Being a mortgage broker, Ive realised that when more people are talking about a certain suburb, the prices start to go up. The Leanyer resident said with all the development happening in the city, it was no surprise buyers could get a good deal there. With so many units on the market, the buyer has the power to bargain and the vendor may need to take a loss to sell their property, he said. Andrew Turner, realestate .com.aus NT sales manager, said the Buyers Markets list helped make the property decision easier for those looking to buy. (The) Buyers Markets present more affordable price points to meet the needs of a buyer, making these properties attractive for people looking to enter the property market, he said. With low interest rates, now is a great time to jump into the market to secure that dream property youve always wanted. The real estate website looked at a years worth of data relating to supply and demand, days on market, and listing and sale price differences to work out the top Buyers Markets lists throughout Australia. There are currently 178 properties for sale in Darwin, 89 in Stuart Park, 73 in Katherine and 43 in Gillen.
