FRIDAY MAY 22 2015 ENTERTAINMENT 43 V1 - NTNE01Z01MA Mauboy sets sights on more heartfelt recording MELBOURNE: Jessica Mauboy has written enough songs for her upcoming album, which she promises will bare more of who she is as a woman. The ARIA Award winner says she has written around 12 songs for her new record, which she is hoping to release next year. This time around with the album I would like to ... just take risks in terms of the sound and identifying who I am as a woman, Mauboy said yesterday. Its more of a rhythmic pop so its not going to be extreme pop. Its going to be a little bit more soul. No stranger to the screen after roles in films Bran Nue Dae (2010) and The Sapphires (2012), Mauboy has put plans on hold to try and break into US television but has been reading Australian scripts. In a character I love a bit of charisma and a little bit of comedy, so someone who is quite funny but stands her ground, she said. The 25-year-old has a busy remainder of the year ahead, putting finishing touches on her album and doing appearances as the new face of Target. She says she already feels part of the Target family, having shopped at the retailers Darwin store with her family most Sundays during her childhood. Celebs who have lied about their age SYDNEY: Rebel Wilson has been around a little longer than we all thought six years longer in fact. It has been revealed the Australian comedy star is 35 years old, despite her age being widely reported and listed online as 29. Australian business records have now been unearthed that list a Rebel Melanie Elizabeth Wilson as being 35. But the Pitch Perfect star is not the first to pull the wool over our wrinkle-blind eyes. Heres a look at some other celebrities who have lied about their age: A) GERI HALLIWELL Ginger Spice said she was 21 when the Spice Girls rocketed to stardom with their hit Wannabe. A suspicious British press quickly gave her the nickname Old Spice because she looked, well, older than she claimed. And it later emerged she actually was 25. B) MILA KUNIS The Black Swan star told a little white lie about her age in order to land her first big gig in television. Kunis told producers of That 70s Show that she was nearly 18 when auditioning for the show, but she was really only 14. She admitted it in 2012 but remained adamant it was not technically a lie, telling Jay Leno: At one point ... I was going to be 18. C) SANDRA BULLOCK Like Kunis, Bullock also pretended to be older than she was to get a job. The Gravity star said Joys Riptide still on high with US sales milestone SYDNEY: Vance Joys breakout hit Riptide has gone double platinum in the US. Joy has received the official certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after Riptide reached the two million sales milestone. The achievement comes two years since the single was released in the USA. In Australia, Riptide has become the longest-charting song since the ARIA charts became a thing. It has lasted more than 100 consecutive weeks in the charts, o v e r t a k i n g Lady Gagas Poker Face and the Black Eyed Peas I Gotta Feeling. Earlier this month, Joy performed Riptide on the season finale of American Idol with New Orleans contestant Quentin Alexander. Rapper 360 gives serve to hip-hops new wave MELBOURNE: Australian rapper 360 has lashed out at up and coming hip-hop artists, likening them to chipmunks. These dudes sound like autotuned chipmunks. I actually dunno what the fis going on, he tweeted. Ive always said Ill never be THAT dude whos like hip hop has changed blah blah but some of the new rap shit MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. 360 r e c e n t l y wrapped his Utopia regional tour, which had been postponed due to illness. The rapper, whose real name is Matt Colwell, won two ARIA Awards in 2012 for Breakthrough Artist and Producer of the Year. Starstruck Sheeran just stoked to support Stones SYDNEY: Ed Sheeran sells out stadiums all by himself, yet even he is excited to be a support act to one particular band. The British singer has revealed he will be playing a one-off gig before the Rolling Stones gig at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 27. The concert will be part of the Stones 15-city North American stadium tour, which kicks off in San Diego on May 24. Opening up for the Stones on a one-off gig and Im very excited, S h e e r a n tweeted, including an Insta gram of the gigs details. It seems even one of the worlds biggest musicians has his idols. Aussie Guy reckons hell sound better if cold lingers LONDON: Guy Sebastian is confident hell recover from a head cold in time for this weekends Eurovision Song Contest final, but insists even if he doesnt that may not be a bad thing. The Australian has revealed sometimes his voice actually sounds better when hes crook. Yeah Im sick but sometimes I sing better when Im sick, Sebastian told reporters in Vienna on Wednesday. Sometimes Ill have these dulcet tones that I dont normally have or theres that hoarseness that will give me more character. Were singers. Were at the mercy of our bodies. The 33-year-old said on Tuesday he was suffering from the most lingering virus hed ever had. The keen surfer, who lives in Sydney, has suggested his ill health may partly be due to Eurovision organisers having him surf in an icy river in Salzburg for a pro motional video. But he hopes to be fighting fit when he belts out Tonight Again in the Eurovi sion final on Saturday night (Sunday morning AEST). Come Satur day I should be fine, Sebastian said. I feel like Im getting better. Sebastian will perform in the first half of the final after drawing his position out of a bowl during Wednesdays official press conference. she was 29 to land herself the role of a scientist in the 1992 comedy Love Potion but she was really a few years younger. Bullock later told Vanity Fair magazine: After a while, you have no idea how old you are because youve lied so many times. D) NICKI MINAJ The Anaconda rapper had her age secret ruined by none other than the cops after she was involved in a fight in 2011. Minaj had been saying she was 26, but a police report following a confrontation at her home with her maid revealed she was in fact 28. E) NICOLE SCHERINGER The former Pussycat Doll admitted in 2008 that she was about to turn 30, when the bands website listed her as 28. Scheringer laughed off the mishap when questioned about it, saying: I shouldve said I was 27. F) EMINEM Slim Shady told interviewer Howard Stern in 1999 that he was 24. He was 27 at the time. Who knows why the My Name Is rapper lied but we can be sure hell never pen a tune called My Age Is. G) NELLY The rapper and his reps said Nelly was younger than he was so that Teen People magazine would allow him in their 25 Hottest Stars Under 25. But the Luven Me and Ride Wit Me rapper was really 28 at the time, proving that he not only struggles with spelling, but remembering also his age. H) JAMES BLUNT In a bid to appeal to a youn ger crowd, Blunt knocked three years off his life until he was outed by the media at age 36. The British singer was 30 when he shot to fame with his 2004 hit Youre Beautiful.
