MONDAY MAY 4 2015 NEWS 03 V1 - NTNE01Z01MA MHSE01Z01MA - V1 LOGIES 2015 Rebecca Judd looked stunning on the red carpet in her exquisitely detailed JAton gown MHSE01Z01MA - V1 LOGIES 2015 TERRITORY star Miranda Tapsell was a long way from the bushland of her childhood home in Jabiru when she walked on stage to accept her Logie at the 57th TV Logie Awards in Melbourne last night. Love Childs Tapsell won the prize for most popular new talent. She used her speech to thank those who voted for her, even the ones who arent related to me and to call for more indigenous people to be cast in mainstream TV. Put more beautiful people of colour on TV and connect viewers in ways that transcend race, the first-time Logies nominee said. Her speech received one of the biggest rounds of applause of the night and lit up Twitter with fans praising her for her words and her win. Tapsell told the NT News she selected a dress by Australian label By Weave to wear to the event. The seamstress did all of the costumes for The Sapphires (Tapsells first feature movie), she said. Tapsell said she had prepared a speech on the off chance she won a Logie. Youve got to take any opportunity you get with both hands, she said. If it means getting out of the Territory like it has for me then you have to do that. Because youll forever wish that you tried and I didnt want to have that regret. Leaving her home town was a chance that paid off, with the second season of Love Child to premiere tomorrow. Earlier, choking back tears The Projects Carrie Bickmore paid tribute to her late husband and current partner as she accepted the Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter. Dressed in a figure-hugging, ethereal dress with a plunging neckline, it was hard to believe the 34-year old only gave birth to her second child Evie with new partner Chris Walker seven weeks ago. Bickmore spoke of her journey from heartache after the death of her first husband Greg Lange who died from brain cancer in 2010 to the joy of her family today. To Greg and to my stepdad Brian there are so many days when I wish I could pick up the phone and call you and tell you something cool thats happened and today is one of those days and I hope youre having a rum together up there, she said, her voice breaking. And to Chris thank you for supporting me along the way and for showing me there can be sunshine at the end of a long road. It was the night for new mums and plunging necklines with Asher Keddie winning the Silver Logie for most popular actress for the fifth time in a row. The 40-year-old Offspring star had her first child Vincenzo in March. Even I myself thought it should be someone elses turn this year but Ill take it, said Keddie who has also been nominated for the Gold every year since 2011 and won in 2013. Former Home and Away star Steve Peacocke appeared via satellite to accept his Silver Logie for most popular actor.
