42 EDUCATION SUNDAY JANUARY 25 2015 NTNE01Z01MA - V1 Reaching out to students Lillie Thompson, Emma Kellaway and Andrew Venestwo recently completed their year 12 study at Taminmin College TAMINMIN College offers an exciting learning environment and provides flexible pathways for students. The college offers a comprehensive education from years 7 to 12 and includes a Vocational Education and Training (VET) section. Taminmin is also the only school in the NT with an agricultural facility a 75ha mixed-produce farm. The school vision, promoting high achievement in a safe, disciplined and caring environment is a focus for the teaching and learning process. The school values are encompassed in the acronym REACH: R = respect E = effort towards excel lence A = achieve your goals C = caring community H= honesty Students of high academic potential can experience enrichment, extension and challenge across core learning areas in the Leading Learner program. The Centre for Excellence caters for high ability students who aspire to higher education. Support is provided for students to work towards age-appropriate standards in their learning. The Sports Academy offers specialised education in practical and theoretical aspects of a range of sports for students of high physical ability. Students in the senior years have a number of pathways to choose from. These include academic areas, and a vocational program that provides pathways to training and employment with built-in flexibility to achieve success. Common year level pastoral care programs and full uniform contribute to a safe but disciplined learning environment. The Accelerating Literacy Learning program aims to enhance student literacy across the school. The mixed-produce farm gives students opportunities for learning in aquaculture, horticulture and agriculture.
