16 NEWS FRIDAY NOVEMBER 28 2014 NTNE01Z01MA - V1 Snaps that created history DORON Aviguy may have taken the worlds most famous photo of a crocodile. And that is because it wound up on the front of the NT News back in 2008 a saltie lunging at his mate in a tinny under the headline GDay Bait. Its what is called in the business, a cracker. It is also the front page of the new coffee table book entitled What a Croc!, a book of some of the NT News greatest front pages. The book is published by Hachette Australia and plugged shamelessly by the NT News. The 29-year-old Israeli software engineer was back then working on a commercial barramundi boat but work had stopped because of rough seas. There was a cyclone warning and we were all bored after two days with no work and nothing to do, he told the NT News yesterday. So I took out my camera and went outside and there was a crocodile I was familiar with, that we called Bung Eye. I started taking photos of him and he started getting closer and closer and my mate Novon (Mashiah) said, What are you doing? Dont do it! Its dangerous! I told him to get in the other dinghy and point at the crocodile. We didnt expect anything to happen. But then the crocodile got closer really close. He pulled his belly out of the water and then launched out of the water. Novon understood very quickly and jumped very quickly, too. He then started yelling at me, he was saying, You tried to kill me! You f**king d**khead! But I knew that I had a great picture. All of my mates tell the story and show the picture. Before I come to a job interview they Google your name to see if you are a criminal or whatever, and this comes up first. It is the story I think I tell the most. By DAVID WOOD Some of the many classic NT News front pages down the years youll find in our new book Tree is a blockbuster PUTTING up the Christmas tree is a big enough task but rarely do you need a cherrypicker, forklift and 1200 hours to do so. Sydney shoppers stepping into Pitt St Mall will not miss the jaw-dropping giant Lego Christmas tree, which lit up last night. More than 500,000 Lego bricks have been used to construct the 10m-tall tree. Weighing 3.5 tonnes, the tree is adorned with basketball-size baubles and accompanied by a scruffy surfer Santa Claus figure who watches over the tree. Brave girl takes wheel A 12-YEAR-OLD NSW girl who took control of the steering wheel when her father apparently had a heart attack and lost control of their car has been praised for showing great presence of mind. Her father died but the girl was able to steer the car out of the way of oncoming traffic before it mounted the kerb and hit a tree. Newcastle police Inspector Gerard Lawson praised the girls bravery, saying she saved the lives of other drivers.
