Stuart, who left Parramatta to coach the Raiders after the sacking of David Furner, has wasted no time stamping his authority on his new team, training them in 40C heat and sending them to a week-long elite training camp. The former NSW and Australia coach has seen big potential for McCrone at hooker. Faith inMoses to deliver title MOSES Wigness has taken over the reins again at Brothers Rugby League club for the 2014 season. Wigness, who coached the club for three years and won the 2010 and 2011 premierships, replaces Anthoiny Castro who had held the position for the past two seasons. The clubs seniors sign-on day is at Airport Tavern today from 1pm. Brothers spokesman John Adams said the club wanted to regain the premiership that they lost to Palmerston last year. New rules to endmass debates MANLY coach Geoff Toovey says captain Jamie Lyon wont have to change his on-field approach to referees despite recent NRL rule changes. Lyon and Canterburys Michael Ennis are seen as two of the games leading debaters when it comes to arguing with match officials. But they are set to be stymied by a new law that limits where and when captains can speak to refs. Under new rules captains will only be able to speak to refs during a stoppage in play. Lachlan schooled by Shark RUGBY LEAGUE ByDOUGBOOTH MacKillop Sharks centre Levi Russell with student Lachlan Miller at the merger announcement yesterday Picture: JUSTIN SANSON LACHLAN Miller wants to play senior rugby league when he grows up. The MacKillop Catholic College student discovered plenty of ways to help him reach that goal from the now MacKillop Sharks hardtackling centre Levi Russell yesterday. Lachlan, 13, and Russell, 22, were integral parts of the launch to merge the Sharks with the Palmerstonbased college. I like rugby league because of the teamwork that is involved in playing, said Lachlan, who has been playing the game for four years. It is not just a one-man game. I like running with the ball and scoring tries. Russell said young players such as Lachlan were the future of the 13-a-side game. We are looking for a premiership this season and building links such as this is vital for the future, he said. College principal Loretta Graham said MacKillop was trying to build a community spirit through sporting organisations and this was another step forward. David Graham is the Year 8 music co-ordinator at MacKillop but his other passion is rugby league. Growing up in Cairns, he played his first rugby league in Queensland and last year he was with the Palmerston Raiders. However, as the brainchild behind the merger of the school and club, he has new allegiances. The Palmerston demographic is much different to Darwin, Graham said. Queensland and NSW influence the culture. Graham said the merger would help provide a grassroots pathway that had not existed before in rugby league in the Northern Territory. It is important that we try and bridge the gap between school and club, he said. The Sharks will hold their senior sign-on at Mary MacKillop School today from 10am. Read an exclusive interview with Darwins Joel Romelo in tomorrows SundayTerritorian. Dont let them go DICK Johnson last night described Fords looming exit from V8 Supercars as a disaster, with the Blue Ovals greatest ever driver predicting angry fans would boycott the brand in an emotional protest. Australias greatest sporting rivalry is set to be killed with Ford to end its famous V8 war with Holden at the end of next year. Johnson, a five times V8 champion and three times Bathurst winner, urged the manufacturer to follow Holden and recommit to V8 Supercars and stop an emotional outpouring from fans. Im not sure what the fans would do but some of them would leave, Johnson said. What I can tell you is that it would be a disaster for the sport. From our point of view we need them here. I think it would be a mistake for both them and certainly for us. Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) and the Ford Performance Racing team are the only two Ford teams left on the grid. FPRs deal with Ford expires at the end of the year while DJR has not received official factory backing from Ford since 2008. Ford means so much to so many people, Johnson said. And I dont think some realise just how much. I cant tell you how many loyal and passionate fans I have met in my life but I can tell your there are thousands of them. They love this sport and they love Ford, and they both go together. I cant even comprehend what they would do if they left the sport. I really dont even wont to think about it. For some of these people, it is their life. They have grown up with both Ford and this sport. Johnson said V8s should still be important to Ford. The founder of the company knew how important motorsport was to the brand, Johnson said. Henry Ford staked the future of the company on motorsport. By JAMES PHELPS Dave Reynolds of Ford Performance Racing set a new lap record at the Bathurst 1000 yesterday Picture: MARK HORSBURGH NEVER has a record been shattered with less fuss. Sure, they were celebrated once. Like 11 years ago when Greg Murphy went so quickly around Mount Panorama that, to a man, the garage crews lined pit lane to clap in what will forever be The Lap of the Gods. But yesterday? Well, by the time practice was done, the numbers had shattered as badly as several supercars. Bottle-O driver Dave Reynolds became not just the fastest man to lap the Bathurst bitumen this year but ever. It should have prompted a tickertape parade. His sizzling time of 2:06.3714 was some five-tenths quicker than the record set by Craig Lowndes in 2010. And if it rains for three days, Reynolds laughed afterwards, I might just keep it. But it wont. And neither will Reynolds. For as was predicted earlier this week, the 2014 Bathurst 1000 is set to be the fastest mountain challenge ever one reason no one was spraying champagne last night. Reynolds streaks to lap record ... for now
