Alice Springs Town Council 2004/2005 Annual Report Page 5 Chief Executive Officers Message Rex Mooney CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER As one of the largest employers in Alice Springs Council has a lead role in ensuring that Alice Springs is seen as an attractive place for career development. I am committed to creating a learning and development organisation at Alice Springs Town Council. In 2004 -2005 a comprehensive training needs analysis was conducted of all staff across Council. The result saw the establishment of an Annual Training Calender that aims to meet the future needs of our Depot and Civic Centre staff. Organisationally the staff at the Civic Centre has operated under a busy and cramped work environment. The completion of the new Civic Centre in 2006 will provide a setting much more conducive to staff meeting professional requirements their work involves. Council has made progress on a number of infrastructure developments aimed to improve the health and well being of the community. These include: Completion of major river walks along the Todd River; Completion of fencing at Tragaer Park, our premium sports facility; and Increasing shade protection at other sporting facilities. The Council remains in a strong financial position and has introduced a number of good governance practices to ensure this continues in the future. Each quarter the Council conducts a financial review to ensure that it continues to support the major projects as committed in the Annual Business Plan. I would like to recognise the outstanding efforts of the dedicated staff at Alice Springs Town Council. They have contributed another great year for the Council and the community. This year Council introduced service awards to recognise those that had contributed to significant milestones (10 years and beyond) of community service. The 2004-2005 Annual Report is a testament to the enthusiasm and dedication of Her Worship the Mayor Fran Kilgariff and the Aldermen in providing the leadership to meet the needs of our community.
