Shes had no contact with another human being during her time in space ... so how did this happen? Who or what could the father be? And what does this mean for Molly, and for the human race? As if that didnt give viewers of Extant enough to follow, there was a fair bit happening on Earth while Molly was away, particularly the work of Mollys scientist husband John, played by ER star Goran Visnjic. John, you see, is experiencing his own form of parenthood: he has created Ethan (Pierce Gagnon), an artificially intelligent humanic robot in the form of a young boy. And its his dream to see his creations become more and more human by exposing them to as much of the real world as possible, so against the advice of colleagues he has been raising Ethan as his son. Hes hoping to jump from artificial intelligence to sentient intelligence by exposing these robots, these perfect intellects, to human experience, Visnjic said. But given Ethan is a test case, there are undoubtedly a few kinks in the system. John doesnt see that hes opening Pandoras Box, smiled Visnjic. He already sees Ethan as a human child, which is a dangerous thing. He doesnt see the negative possibilities. z Extant, Ten Digital, tonight at 8.45pm Smart cookie: Goran Visnjic as ambitious scientist John in Extant. 6.00 Dora The Explorer. 6.30 Weekend Today. 9.30 Financial Review Sunday. 10.00 Wide World Of Sports. 11.00 NRL Sunday Footy Show. 1.00 Wild Life Of Tim Faulkner. 1.30 Rugby League.
