Vocal league critic Hardy joins its board Shaun Hardy FORMER St Marys president Shaun Hardy has joined the AFLNTs board of directors. Hardys appointment has a touch of irony after he publicly challenged his new colleagues on a number of issues relating to the NTFL competition when in charge of St Marys. Yes, some will be surprised by the appointment as weve had some differences over the years, Hardy said last night. Such as the former (Territory Thunder) 25-game rule, Foxtel Cup participation and player deregistration issues when Darryl White was given a life ban. But Hardy said there were also several positives to work on with the exciting NTFL competition. The pathways being created for the Territorys local talent and the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre will be a wonderful community asset, he said. The project director of regional governance reform in Darwin, Hardy replaces the outgoing Mark Crossin on the board of directors. I feel very honoured with the appointment, which has come at the right time having stepped down from the St Marys presidency last year, he said. The AFLNT has a very important role and Im excited to be working with the highquality people on the board and the staff. A three-time premiership player at St Marys and a Territory Teal Cup representative, Hardy said he was always open to discussion with the football public about where the games governance could be improved. Im looking forward to listening to people from across all clubs and the Territory . . . and what can be done to strengthen our game and local clubs, he said. I love my footy and Ill be at Gardens Oval this weekend watching the Tiwi Bombers against Waratahs. Thats not forgetting the other games in the lead-in to what is shaping up as a tight finals series. GREYMORRIS Chelsea ends Man City run CHELSEA defied Manchester Citys scintillating home form yesterday with a superb 1-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium that injected fresh intrigue into the EPL title race. Imperious in recent weeks, City were looking to reclaim top spot from Arsenal and move six points above Chelsea, but it was the visitors who prevailed thanks to a 32nd-minute bullet by Branislav Ivanovic. City had won all 11 of their previous home league games this season, losing only to European champ ions Bayern Munich on home turf, while it was the first time they had failed to score at the Etihad in the league since November 2010. The hosts had been seeking a ninth successive league win, but instead Jose Mourinhos Chelsea were left to celebrate a home-andaway double, having beaten City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in Octobers reverse fixture. Chelsea hit the woodwork three times, but Ivanovics strike proved enough as they moved level on points with City, two points shy of leaders Arsenal.
