MONDAY JUNE 9 2014 SWITCHEDON 11 V1 - NTNE01Z01MA onSwitched YOUR WEEKLY TV GUIDE All Sweet as for star Griffiths GOLDEN-Globe-winning actor Rachel Griffiths has had to readapt to the lean production style of Aussie TV after joining the cast of House Husbands. Used to the luxurious pace of US TV, including Six Feet Under and Brothers and Sisters, her new gig is shot in a quarter of the time Griffiths, pictured, plays Lewis Crabbs (Gary Sweet) ex-wife Belle. When Gemma Crabb (Julia Morris) turns up and gives Belle the worlds most withering look, its pretty clear shes the cat among the pigeons. I dont think you can make Australian TV coming in on any star trip, Griffiths says. House Husbands is a fitting show for Griffiths, with its family themes. She returned to Australia to spend more time with her children, Banjo, Adelaide and Clementine. Since her return shes appeared in Underground: The Julian Assange Story, Paper Giants: Magazine Wars and Australian-made NBC series Camp. Partner Andrew Taylor has been something of a real-life house husband, his work as a painter allowing him the flexibility to be there for the kids when she was working. I couldnt have done the hours I was doing if I was married to a banker, I wouldnt have felt comfortable having the emotional part of child-raising outsourced, so I was always confident they had their Dad, she says. House Husbands appeal was its mix of comedy and drama and its cast, in particular Gary Sweet. Griffiths has vivid memories of an early guest role opposite him in Police Rescue. Sweet cant remember it. She keeps telling me she did it he says. And, of course, I remember every moment because Im the young actor and Im working with GARY SWEET! she laughs. He scared the beejezus out of me because it was Gaz in his days of thunder. With an obvious rapport, theyre looking for another project together. He keeps pitching me: what about a remake of Hart to Hart? she laughs. So were trying to see how we can do it again somewhere else. I love Gary, Ive got a really good chemistry with him. Hes such an intelligent larrikin. HOUSE HUSBANDS, CHANNEL 9, TONIGHT, 9PM
