The Wagaitear - August 20145Residents at the opening of the Memorial Garden T h e W a g a i t B e a c h Memorial Garden has been a long time coming since the idea was first bandied about by the first working group way back in 2006. Jill Formby, Dave Barry and Jill Mumme started a working group that applied for a grant by the NTG. They got the money, plans to build the garden have been met with many challenges over the years. While never far from the council meetings agenda, it took a final injection of passion and energy by Jill Mumme, Fred Gill is and Wagait Shire Council staff to finally put ideas into action. Gary Higgins member for Daly and Major Ian Dawson were part of the official opening on July 26 but it was seeing how families came together in sadness and joy around their chosen rock that made it obvious how important this place will become. A place to remember finally comes to life
