WEDNESDAY MAY 21 2014 NEWS 09 V1 - SUBE01Z01MA Helpers needed for club THE Palmerston Football Club is in desperate need of committee volunteers to keep its doors open and its teams on the soccer field. Erynn Hughes, a club player, coach and committee nominee, said PFCs present committee members are all stepping down at the AGM on Wednesday, May 28, and there is a sad lack of people stepping up to fill the spots. We are an organisation run completely and solely by volunteers since 1984, she said. The club accommodates four senior teams and 27 junior teams with players from four years old to adult. If the committee positions are not filled by next Wednesday, the club will be disbanded leaving many children without a sport. She said the committee has been doing most of the work to keep the club running. Its a big club with more than 250 players and only a handful of people doing all the hard work, she said. They just need a break and we need more people to step up and help out. Were the only soccer club in Palmerston and if we shut down there will be 28 teams of kids back in front of the TV instead of outside playing soccer. She said the club needs people to nominate for eight positions on the committee, ranging from president to committee member. If youve got an idea of what soccer is, or if youve played, we want you. It only needs to be a couple of hours a week as long as everyone puts in, she said. Club patron and Member for Drysdale Lia Finocchiaro said the community needs to get behind the club.
