TUESDAY MAY 6 2014 WEATHER 39 V1 - NTNE01Z01MA Get right lure for job HERE are some ideas on lure selection. Barramundi can see some colours and detect prey and predators with both their eyes and lateral lines very well in the shallows. While they see well at night, they can occasionally catch prey without seeing. The lateral line is a measuring instrument that detects an acoustic pulse in water and measures distances by the time it takes for the echo of the pulse to return. Thats why they can catch a small squidgy fish/silver fox, black gold (soft plastic swim shad) in the dark. Lateral line is a brilliant performance organ. Rebel minnow 115mm This lure has great horizontal side-to-side action so that this lure can avoid snagging rocks. Your skilled twitch of the fishing rod will generate walk- the-dog action under the water. In addition, the unique washboard-body textures produce attractive reflected lights, noises and waves in the water. These actions of this lure have great appeal for barramundis eyes and lateral lines. Its an ideal minnow for catching barramundi in the quiet and slightly noisy water on our shallows. Reidys Hellraiser 65mm This lure has great wobbling action for barramundi. Its a shallow-diver lure, but its a bit different from other available shallow-diver lures Hellraiser can swim at a slightly deeper range of the water. Therefore, I need to negotiate the oyster rocks carefully when using the Hellraiser. But thats also why we can catch more smart-thinking barramundi. This lure has a great appeal for barramundis lateral lines. Its an ideal crank-bait min now for catching barramundi in both the quiet and noisy waters on our shallows. Yo-Zuri SS minnow 90mm and 65mm A super-shallow crank-bait minnow perfectly suited to shallow-water game fish. This lure has a very attractive wobbling action to barramundi. It has a great appeal for barramundis lateral lines. Its an ideal crank-bait minnow for catching barramundi in both the quiet and noisy waters on our super shallows. The SS minnow is also great for barramundi when used as a wake bait. What colour do you use for catching barramundi by land based on our shallows? I recommend a following rotation to beginners: Your favourite colour Bait colour Green (chartreuse) White Shiny colour HIRO NAKAMURA Clockwise from top: Rebel; Hellraiser; and the SS minnow Check out Hiros blog: secretbarramundi.blogspot.com.au Sunrise Sunset Moonrise Moonset 6:55 am 6:32 pm 12:26 pm May 15 May 21 May 29 May 7 Tue May 6 Wed May 7 Thu May 8 Fri May 9 Sat May 10 Sun May 11 Mon May 12 Tue May 13 4:11am 2.4m 10:32am 6.1m 4:32pm 3.4m 10:08pm 5.2m 4:58am 2.8m 11:17am 5.7m 5:50pm 3.6m 11:22pm 4.8m 6:00am 3.2m 12:16pm 5.4m 7:20pm 3.5m 1:13am 4.7m 7:18am 3.4m 1:32pm 5.3m 8:42pm 3.3m 2:59am 5.0m 8:43am 3.4m 2:53pm 5.5m 9:42pm 2.8m 3:59am 5.5m 9:55am 3.2m 3:49pm 5.8m 10:27pm 2.4m 4:45am 6.0m 10:49am 2.9m 4:31pm 6.1m 11:06pm 1.9m 5:27am 6.5m 11:30am 2.6m 5:08pm 6.4m 11:44pm 1.4m Darwin 23 31 0.2 Tindal 17 32 Jabiru 22 32 Nhulunbuy 22 31 Northeast Island 25 31 Borroloola 10 30 Tennant Creek 14 27 Alice Springs 8 24 Yulara Location Min Max *Rain Location Min Max *Rain * rainfall 24 hours to 9am yesterday 1000 992 1024 1008 1008 1016 1016 996 L 982L 1032 H WARNINGS Latest information at www.bom.gov.au/weather Coastal & Land Weather 1300 659 214 Tropical Cyclone 1300 659 211 NORTHERN TERRITORY Isolated showers in the far northeast Top End.
