The Wagaitear - June 2014 2 We pray for peace so it will never happen again. For Jack Sprat t , who has a long family history of service, Anzac Day is a good day, but a day that makes him think about the family members that have died because of their service to Australia. Jack was posted to Vietnam in 1969 for 12 months and three days and said that being a soldier during the Vietnam War was like losing touch with reality. Jack along with about 60 other Wagait Beach locals turned out on Anzac Day this year to remember those whose lives were lost while on service for the Australian Defence force. In keeping with tradition, the mid morning service was held on council grounds with Major Ian Dawson conducting the service. Ian captured the meaning of the day by saying we pray for peace so it will never happen again. Jack was a Royal Australian Engineer and after some basic training at the School of Military Engineering in Sydney, he was posted to Vungtau in Southern Vietnam.
