SANDERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL Building the Future News and Views Page 3 SANDERSON 2014 Sanderson Middle School will have a new look in 2014 in terms of curriculum subjects and timetables. Sanderson Middle Schools curriculum at Years 7, 8 and 9 will be based on the Australian National Cur riculum. The implementation of the Australian Curriculum includes a wide range of experiences that cater for individual interests and abilities. In Years 7, 8 and 9 students will engage in a rigorous student centred program based on the four core subjects of: English Maths Science Humanities and Social Sciences In addition, students will be offered choices from a range of other subjects including: Multimedia and Art Drama and Dance Music Languages Home Economics Health and Physical Education Design and Technology One of the important aspects of learning in a middle school is the knowledge and experience gained from 'real world learning'. Students access meaningful and relevant learning opportunities through a range of options and extended units of study complemented by excursions and camps. Students in Years 7 will receive extra care as they move into Sanderson Middle School from primary school. Staff will support and care for students as they make the transition from primary to secondary schooling. Students will be supported through a pastoral and wellbeing focus. Core Subject Teachers and Year Level Coordinators will also be primary source of contact for wellbeing for each student. In Years 7 and 8, students will remain with the same teacher all year for core subjects in explicit learning blocks. Other curriculum subjects will be offered by specialist teachers. As the senior students in a middle school program, Year 9 students will offered a range of leadership opportunities, vocational learning and a careers and transition program that prepares them for the change to the senior stages of schooling (Years 10 12).
