Stuart, who left Parramatta to coach the Raiders after the sacking of David Furner, has wasted no time stamping his authority on his new team, training them in 40C heat and sending them to a week-long elite training camp. The former NSW and Australia coach has seen big potential for McCrone at hooker. Faith inMoses to deliver title MOSES Wigness has taken over the reins again at Brothers Rugby League club for the 2014 season. Wigness, who coached the club for three years and won the 2010 and 2011 premierships, replaces Anthoiny Castro who had held the position for the past two seasons. The clubs seniors sign-on day is at Airport Tavern today from 1pm. Brothers spokesman John Adams said the club wanted to regain the premiership that they lost to Palmerston last year. New rules to endmass debates MANLY coach Geoff Toovey says captain Jamie Lyon wont have to change his on-field approach to referees despite recent NRL rule changes. Lyon and Canterburys Michael Ennis are seen as two of the games leading debaters when it comes to arguing with match officials. But they are set to be stymied by a new law that limits where and when captains can speak to refs. Under new rules captains will only be able to speak to refs during a stoppage in play. Lachlan schooled by Shark RUGBY LEAGUE ByDOUGBOOTH MacKillop Sharks centre Levi Russell with student Lachlan Miller at the merger announcement yesterday Picture: JUSTIN SANSON LACHLAN Miller wants to play senior rugby league when he grows up. The MacKillop Catholic College student discovered plenty of ways to help him reach that goal from the now MacKillop Sharks hardtackling centre Levi Russell yesterday. Lachlan, 13, and Russell, 22, were integral parts of the launch to merge the Sharks with the Palmerstonbased college. I like rugby league because of the teamwork that is involved in playing, said Lachlan, who has been playing the game for four years. It is not just a one-man game. I like running with the ball and scoring tries. Russell said young players such as Lachlan were the future of the 13-a-side game. We are looking for a premiership this season and building links such as this is vital for the future, he said. College principal Loretta Graham said MacKillop was trying to build a community spirit through sporting organisations and this was another step forward. David Graham is the Year 8 music co-ordinator at MacKillop but his other passion is rugby league. Growing up in Cairns, he played his first rugby league in Queensland and last year he was with the Palmerston Raiders. However, as the brainchild behind the merger of the school and club, he has new allegiances. The Palmerston demographic is much different to Darwin, Graham said. Queensland and NSW influence the culture. Graham said the merger would help provide a grassroots pathway that had not existed before in rugby league in the Northern Territory. It is important that we try and bridge the gap between school and club, he said. The Sharks will hold their senior sign-on at Mary MacKillop School today from 10am. Read an exclusive interview with Darwins Joel Romelo in tomorrows SundayTerritorian. COMPETITORS had the pedal to the metal over the 750m swim, 26km bike and 5km run at the Ray White NT Sprint Triathlon Championships at Lake Alexander on Sunday. Exiting the 750m swim together were defending champion Tim Green, Caleb Noble (NSW) and 2007 champion Brett Verity. They went swiftly through the transition and once on the bike course, continued to hammer hard. Green and Verity were able to ride away from Noble during the first lap and build a sizeable lead on the rest of the large field during the final stages of the bike. Shoulder to shoulder through the bike-to-run transition, the pair took off on the 5km run both wearing steely looks of determination. It was the in-form Green who had the run speed to pull away from Verity early and cross the line in one hour, seven minutes and five seconds to secure his second NT Sprint title. It is always good to get back-to-back wins, Green said. This is a fast course and no way can you could slack off with that field coming behind. Verity (1:08.38) was second with Noble (1:09.39) holding out fast-finishing Marcus Lisle and Connor McKay to complete the mens podium. In the womens race, positions juggled during the bike leg but Victorias Shari Livingston bolted home for the win. Livingston took 1:18.4 to make her trip for a successful taste of triathlon Top End style. Taking the minor podium places were locals Hannah Johnston (1:18.32) and Emma Winterflood (1:20.08). The squad was honoured at a reception in Sydney yesterday, just three days after clinching a record third World T20 crown with a six-wicket win in the final over England in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Cricket Australia last year upgraded their womens contracting system, increasing player retainers and payments. However, all the Southern Stars still have to juggle cricket with either work or study. Captain Meg Lanning and her deputy Alex Blackwell both believe it wont be too long before players at their level will be full-time professionals. I hope so, I don't think its too far away, Lanning said. Obviously if were very successful then thats certainly going to help. But at the minute were very happy with the level of support we get. Im sure in the future it will only increase. Fellow batswoman Blackwell, who first played international cricket in 2002-03, had similar expectations. It will happen sooner rather than later, said Blackwell, who goes back to work soon. Lanning was confident Australia had the potential to maintain the success that has allowed them to win the last four ICC womens World events across the T20 and oneday formats. If we can keep improving, I've no doubt well be able to win a few more World Cups, Lanning said. Her confidence was shared by all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who like Lanning is among eight players in the winning team under the age of 25. Weve still got another three or four years to continue to develop, Perry said. Perry wasnt quite ready to accept the proposition that the Southern Stars were Australias most successful team, having won the past three World T20 titles and the most recent one-day World Cup. Weve got so many wonderfully successful teams, but its very nice to be part of that now too, Perry said. While she was reluctant to talk football, dual international Perry hoped she would be able to fight her way back into the Matildas squad.
