V2 - NTNE01Z01MA Trey bon: NT a smash hit Northern Territory teenager Trey Crowley has made an impression in Fremantle Picture: HELEN ORR TERRITORY boxer Trey Crowley is the early success story at this weeks Australian junior titles at Fremantles Esplanade Hotel. Crowley, 13, from Darwins Atlas Boxing Gym, won his first-round fight in the junior 44kg division when he beat NSW hotshot Jarrad Kosorukow in a split points decision. His win earned him a semifinal berth where he recorded a win over ACTs Dylan Wilson yesterday. The teenager, who has received plaudits from the Territory coaching group and championship organisers, contests the final tomorrow. Trey was terrific for us, but so have all the boxers representing the NT at the nation als, Boxing NT president and team coach Mercedas Taaffe said last night. Weve lost a few in the early bouts, but none of them were stopped early, they have all fought through to split-decision losses. We thought Tate Stewart beat his WA opponent (Billy Parker) and so did the crowd, but the decision went the other way which was a big disappointment. Christos Kastrissios was also very competitive in his (junior 52kg) loss to WAs Brad Abraham. Theres been no shortage of talent from our boys, only a lack of fights compared to the southern boxers who are up around the 40 mark compared to our five or six. Territorian, Reed Halicek, lost on points to highly rated Queenslander Kiwa King. It was the luck of the draw to get him first up, but Reed was very good and certainly made the Queenslander earn the win, Taaffe said. Alice Springs Aaliyah Fuamatu has already sealed a medal in the junior womens 63kg division. She will fight for a gold medal tomorrow night. Taaffe has had plenty of good feedback from championship officials on the performances and conduct of the Territory boxers. Everyone has been impressed, its been a terrific development series for our boxers and one that will stand them in good stead for years to come, she said. The Boxing Australia people are telling us to continue what were doing because its working and thats what we intend to do. By GREY MORRIS BOXING Stars step up for powerhouse Fed Cup semi SAM Stosur and Casey Dellacqua will lead Australias charge in their first Fed Cup semifinal in 21 years at Pat Rafter Arena next week. Captain Alicia Molik has retained the same team which beat Russia for the tie against Germany in Brisbane over the Easter weekend. Im delighted to have such a strong and cohesive team and am keen to build on the terrific results we achieved against Russia in February, Molik said. Its always great to have Sam leading the team. She had a great win against Germanys top player, Angelique Kerber, in Fed Cup two years ago and is a key to our potential success. Joining world No. 20 Stosur and 52nd-ranked Dellacqua in the four-woman team, is Ashleigh Barty and Storm Sanders. Australia holds an 8-4 record over Germany in 12 meetings, with the most recent win in 2012 in Stuttgart.
