DRYSDALE NEWS FIND ME ON FACEBOOK facebook.com/LiaFinocchiaroMLA GETTING TOUGH ON ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR THE ITALIAN FESTIVAL DARWIN NT SPACE SCHOOL CAMP Saturday 18 May 2013 2pm to midnight Parliament House Lawns & Bennett Park FREE ENTRY Event organisers are gearing up for Saturday 18 May 2013, bringing Darwin to life with a mixture of food, drinks, art, culture and wonderful entertainment at the 2013 Italian Festival. As an Italian with a large family here in Darwin, I am excited and looking forward to sharing my heritage with the rest of the community. The festival is being held on the lawns of Parliament House and Bennett Park and starts at 2pm. Local performers at the festival include Lisa and Natalie Pellegrino, Corrugated Iron Youth Arts, The Vox Crocs Choir and Top End sensations The Neo. Other entertainment during the event includes Italian Idol, Tarantella dancers, Essington School Choir and an Italian inspired fashion parade by local boutiques. The NT Space School residential program was implemented in 2008 to provide inspirational space science programs for Northern Territory students in Year 10 and Year 11. I am pleased my government actively supported NT Space School in their 2013 residential program by covering relief teaching costs and making available iPads and computers during the program. I was pleased to be able to present certificates to participating students of the 2013 program. It was a real eye opener to listen to these 16 amazing students from all over the Territory present what they had learnt on their NT Space School camp - lets get more young people involved in Space Science, Engineering and Technology. A big thank you to NT Space School Inc President Aretha Amos whose hard work made the camp an experience these students wont forget. Dont forget Palmerston Markets every Friday from 5pm. Make sure you come and visit me at the CL stand! BASSINTHEGRASS MUSIC FESTIVAL BACK IN 2013 The most popular Top End music festival for young Territorians is surely BASSINTHEGRASS. I was pleased to be given a taste of local talent by hip hop duo My Team Dilemma and rock group Chasin Aces. I can see why they were chosen to perform this year; they are incredibly talented. This year was very competitive with 25 Territory acts applying to perform and all 25 acts were of a very high calibre. Some of the acts performing in this years festival include Grinspoon, Illy, Amy Meredith, Kingswood, 360, Flume, Matt Corby, Hermitude and The Amity Affliction. BASSINTHEGRASS is on Saturday 25 May with tickets available for purchase now at $70 which includes a souvenir cap. Tickets can be purchased from many outlets across the Top End. Contact my office for locations or visit the website at www.bassinthegrass.com.au Minister for Housing, Peter Chandler is taking a no nonsense, get tough approach to antisocial behaviour around public housing in the Territory. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home and a right to quiet enjoyment of their property. This government doesnt want tenants who have no respect for the taxpayer-funded housing they are in, there are too many people waiting for homes. Speaking at a Drysdsale public housing complex in Palmerston, Minister Chandler said there had been 118 incidents since September last year. I am pleased to be part of a government who is prepared to make the tough decisions when dealing with difficult tenants. FREE MORNING TEA FOR OUR SENIORS Cazalys Palmerston provide a fantastic free morning tea for our senior citizens every month. It is a great chance for our retirees to visit a terrific venue and catch up with friends, make new friends and enjoy the hospitality of the friendly staff. Pictured above with me are the Member for Solomon, Natasha Griggs MP, and Senior Songsters members Margot Cox, Judy Markwell and Margaret Moore.
