Being our 25 th Year as a school, we are keen to make contact with many of our past students and for them to attend some of our celebrations during the year. David Cannon Principal/CEO Early Learning Notices Preschool Its hard to believe we are in Week 6 already! How time flies when you are having fun. This week Preschool 1, 2, 3 and 4 have made bread during cooking. We have also been looking at numbers, shapes and colours. Please ensure that you check your childs information pockets and the class Art folders on a regular basis for any updates and Art work. This week our thanks goes to: Mel, Terrys Mum from Preschool 2 for the use of her bread maker; and Carolina, Christinas Mum, from Preschool 3. Miss Nerida and Miss Kristy Transition Notices Pre-Transition/Transition T3 Karaolias Can you believe that it is Week 6 already?! Well, we certainly cannot! This term is flying... T3 have had an interesting week with our CSIRO Incursion. We had Mr. Paul from CSIRO come into our classroom to talk to us about how our body works (with close focus on our organs). He also showed us some pretty awesome activities! For example, we were paired off and were able to: Use a torso model to try to put its organs back into its body. We created a Science experiment - where we added water and some fake food into a tube-like container and shook it to see what would happen. This was a replica of what happens to our food - after it has stomach juice added to it - in our stomachs. We used stethoscopes to hear our heartbeats. Our focus sounds this week were g, o and u. Our focus number was number 6. A reminder to all Pre-Transition parents that Pre-Transition finishes at 11:55am. If your child is not picked up on time, then he/she will be dropped off at the Education Administration Centre office opposite the Library and will be waiting upon your arrival. Can parents please ensure that they check the front pocket of their child's school bag for any messages from school. Christine Karaolias Transition T5 Smith This week has been an exciting one. The students in T5 are working hard on their single sounds. They have significantly expanded their vocabulary by brainstorming words that begin with the sound of the day. On Wednesday, we focused on our sense of hearing and the different sounds we can hear inside and outside the classroom. The children enjoyed listening to different types of music including Mozart, Beethoven and Swan Lake. They identified many different instruments they could hear and explored how different sounds can evoke particular feelings and emotions. On Thursday we had a visit from the CSIRO. The children interacted with many different activities learning about their body and how to keep it healthy. Lucy Smith The Essington School Darwin 2 mailto:alumni@essington.nt.edu.au
