The Melbourne TV production company WTFN has acquired the film and television rights to KerryAnne Walshs book The Stalking of Julia Gillard. Richard Keddie, whose previous credits include the TV bio-dramas Hawke and Curtin, will produce the feature-length TV drama, WTFN said yesterday. The book tells the story of the decline and fall of Australias first female prime minister and the medias role in that, and the resurrection of Kevin Rudd, the man Gillard had toppled. The project represents WTFNs first major foray into drama after acquiring Keddies production house, The Film Company, earlier this year. No broadcaster has come on board, but Rachel Griffiths has signed to play Julia Gillard. WTFN hopes to start filming the drama in 2014. Rebels big cause LOS ANGELES: Rebel Wilson is asking her fans to vote for her in the Peoples Choice awards. The comedy actresss show Super Fun Night is nominated for an award in the favourite new TV comedy category. She also has a shot at taking home the favourite actress in a new TV series prize and has asked her fans to think of her single status when casting their votes. The Australian actress first rose to prominence in 2011s Bridesmaids and went on to take roles in Pain & Gain and Pitch Perfect. Wilson cant believe how much her life has changed in the past few years. I love getting nomd for awards coz the only one I got in school was a Certificate of Participation in the Walkathon peopleschoice (sic), she tweeted. The Peoples Choice Awards are on January 8 at the Nokia Theatre. Warne passes his chic test Elizabeth Hurley and Shane Warne attend a promotional breakfast in Sydney yesterday SYDNEY: Liz Hurley is known for her style, so its no surprise that when she came to Sydney she had the perfect accessory . . . Shane Warne. The pair have sent tongues wagging recently after reports that all was not well in their celebrity paradise. Hurley was spotted moping around London without the ring Warne had bestowed upon her to seal their engagement. However, the couple were clearly back on as Hurley appeared in Sydney yesterday morning to promote her fashion campaign for Queenspark, with Warne by her side but still without her engagement ring. Hurley and Warne turned up to a breakfast in her honour at the Park Hyatt Hotel overlooking Sydney Harbour. Wearing a fitted blue lace dress that came to her knees and towering nude platforms with gold soles, the 48-year-old emerged to a throng of media with Warne by her side. The former cricket pros sartorial efforts were obvious. He wore a smart navy blazer with a dark blue shirt underneath and indigo blue jeans impeccably dressed for a Sydney breakfast. When pressed in an earlier interview on Nine Networks Today show about her influence on Warnes cleaned-up image, Hurley replied: The only thing Im fussy about is regular shaving. And Warne has never let her down in that department. Hurley also revealed she would be supporting Australia in the Ashes, because I noticed that Shane did get very defensive in the last series. Hurley spoke briefly at the Park Hyatt about her partnership with clothing brand Queenspark, which features her swimwear designs: I realised when I was flying in here last night that Ive been coming to Australia for 20 years, but this is the very first time Ive had an Australian job. And after giving Queenspark a big plug and encouraging everyone to shop there she said: Sydneys gorgeous and Australias fantastic. All the while, Warne acted like the perfect boyfriend, dutifully posing for photos with Hurley to help promote her first Aussie gig. Hurley had confirmed earlier they would head to Melbourne for four or five days. Beyonces surprise call to a fan ADELAIDE: Beyonce surprised one Australian fan on Tuesday after interrupting his video call to a friend midconcert to say hello. The singer was performing in Adelaide as part of her The Mrs Carter Show World Tour when she spotted a member of the audience using his iPhone to FaceTime a pal who couldnt make it to the gig. As she approached the man, Beyonce told the crowd: This is a first. Hes doing FaceTime right now. She then reached down and grabbed his mobile so that she could greet his lucky friend herself, saying: Nice to meet you, before launching into her hit song Irreplaceable. Its not the only fun Beyonce has had with her fans while Down Under during a tour stop in Melbourne last month, she decided to strike a cheeky pose after catching one girl trying to take a selfie, with Beyonce performing in the background. Instead, the singer leaned into the shot to photobomb the teenager without missing a beat. Disney plots StarWars course LOS ANGELES: The first of a new series of Star Wars movies will be released on December 18, 2015. Were very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, said Alan Horn, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, which bought Star Wars creator George Lucass com pany Lucasfilm last year. The new movie will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season, but the 2015 release date will also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture. Filming is due to begin in the northern spring at Pin ewood Studios outside London. Lucas, who launched the saga in 1977 and directed four of the six films, will serve as a creative consultant for at least three new films, which are expected to come out every two to three years. The new movie will be directed by J.J. Abrams, who has Star Trek to his credit.
