The 27-year-old will play his first NTFL match in Crocodile colours in 10 years today against Central Australia while he continues to fight for another shot at the elite level. Tambling played 108 games with Richmond after being selected at No. 4 in the 2004 national draft, before being traded to the Crows where he managed just 16 games in three seasons. The former NT Thunder under-18s captain hasnt given up hope of continuing his AFL career, but is looking forward to reuniting with his former teammates at Districts. Its not over with yet. There is still a rookie spot being offered at Adelaide and with the pre-season draft there might be an opportunity somewhere else, he said. In the meantime I wanted to keep fit and the first thing I thought of when I got delisted was, I need to go home and play some footy and try and have a bit of fun again. I saw (former Gold Coast utility) Jared Brennan tweet that he forgot how much fun footy was when he came up and played a few weeks ago, so hopefully I get that feeling as well. There is a fair few players still around that I used to play a lot of junior footy with, so to play alongside them again will be great. Tambling has been the subject of constant criticism throughout his career after the Tigers opted to draft him ahead of former Hawthorn superstar Lance Franklin. He said being delisted was always going to hurt but has no regrets about the effort he put it. I copped a lot, and Im still copping a lot, but Ive given it all I had, he said. I thought I did all that I could in the last few years to try and get another spot, but unfortunately it didnt work out. Tambling said representing the Territory once again for NT Thunder in the NEAFL will be an option for his post-AFL career. Southern Districts take on the Redtails from 4pm today at Norbuilt Oval.
