The Essington School Darwin 12 General Notices Music Notices We welcome Tayah Martin to our music program. Tayah has commenced violin lessons with Caroline McNair. Our Celebration 2013 Concert on Friday evening was certainly a night to remember. The music and dance students once again amazed us with their superb talents. The feedback from parents and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive and full of praise. The evening would not have been a success without all our parent and teacher helpers who assisted behind the scenes to ensure that the evening ran smoothly. Thank you to all our teachers and parents for your ongoing support. Thank you to our stage manager, Sue Little, David Ambrose, and our six very capable stage hands for ensuring that the equipment on stage was in position for the various items. Thanks go to David Bitzer Garrick Foy, Manolis Kamitsis, Thomas Johnston, Kip Hardiman and Anthony Tomazos. Congratulations to our music and dance students on their achievements this year: Thomas Huntingford- Friends of Essington Music Award Haylei Whitehead - Dr. Martin Jarvis Trophy for Achievement and Commitment to Music Natsuko Yonezawa- Top End Sounds Trophy Outstanding Achievement in Music other than Brass and Woodwind Nisangi Wijesinghe- Musicorp Trophy Outstanding Achievement in Music - Brass and Woodwind Melody Lay- Nightcliff Lions outstanding music student Katie Lucas- Jill Kuhn Award Emanuel Kamitsis- Dr Bob Smith Award Millie Hunt- Patricia Hancock Trophy Excellence in Dance Kate Francis- Patricia Hancock Trophy Excellence in Dance To celebrate the festive season and the end of 2013, the Choirs and Senior Strings Ensemble performed a variety of Christmas Carols at Casuarina Square on Monday 2 nd December.The students were all smartly dressed in the choir outfits and band uniform and even wore a Christmas hat. Thank you to the parents who came along to watch the students perform. After the performance the students were treated to an icy pole at school. We are extremely grateful to our parent helpers for their assistance with this music event. Thanks go to the following teachers and groups: Premier Choir, Songsters Choir, Junior School, Senior Strings Ensemble, Merrilyn Watson, Kirsty McCallum, Jazmin Tomsen, Kate Thompson and David Ambrose. Little Voices Concert The Little Voices Concert on Wednesday evening was a huge success. The students dressed up beautifully for their performance and were certainly the Bells of the Ball. They entertained us with a variety of songs and their teacher, Peta Bartley, was extremely proud of their superb performances. Thank you to family and friends for their support. It means a lot to the students to have an audience that appreciates and acknowledges their hard work. Thank you to Peta Bartley for making this a very special evening. We congratulate the following students and thank them for a wonderful evening of entertainment: Freya Willis, Bonnie Peacocke, Nandika Nair, Hallie Mc Dowell, Tessa Goldrick, Bronte Chapman, Kaysha Asokananthan and Lilly McConnel. Instrument and Uniform Return A reminder to students to return all uniforms to the Music Centre by Monday 9 th December. To facilitate this process, please could all uniforms be returned in a plastic bag with your childs name written on it. Uniforms can be dropped off at the Music Centre in the pink tray. The following uniforms are to be returned: Band uniform including black trousers and shirt -Orchestra, Senior Strings and Jazz Ensemble Black trousers and black T-Shirt - Junior School Choir Black Trousers and white TShirt- Songsters Choir Black Trousers and white long sleeve shirt Premier Choir Also please can all instruments that have been hired out this year, be returned to the Music Centre by Monday 9 th December. We are delighted with the performances at the Assemblies on Friday 29 th November. Special thanks to: Cailen Campbell, Catherine Carter, Zoe McDowell, Sunny Nathan, Hannah Oliver, Annie Robbins, Mickaylee Nobbs-Carcuro , Daniel Waites and Nisangi Wijesinghe. We appreciate the support of our music teachers, Caroline McNair, Susi Bertie, Peta Bartley and Imelda Indrawati. Leanne Bakker Music Administration Coordinator After School Care Notices Last week we said farewell to our lovely co-coordinator Laura Hutton. She is off to travel Thailand and head back to the United Kingdom before moving to Brisbane. We wish Miss Laura the best for her future travels and we thank her for all the hard work she put into our amazing After School Care! Just a reminder that After School Care is open from 2:30pm to 5:30pm and a late fee incurs per minute for any children picked up after 5:30pm. If you would like to enroll your child into Vacation Care please contact Trudi Smith on 8985 0173 to organise. Forms and payment are to be handed into the Front Office by Friday 13 th December (Week 10). Kelly Klonaris Out Of School Hours Care Coordinator Sports Notices Adidas Step Up Challenge Thank you to everyone who got involved in the Adidas Step Up Challenge.
