Joness husband, Mark Darcy, has died and Bridget is 51, obsessed by her weight, wrinkles and Twitter, and she is dating a youngster of 30 whom she met online, according to the excerpts of the novel published in The Sunday Times. The book begins five years after Darcys death when Daniel Cleaver, Bridgets exboss and now the godfather of her two children, is fighting to pull Bridget the character played on film by actress Renee Zellweger out of her sadness. The cause of death of Mark Darcy, played by Colin Firth in the film versions of the two previous novels, is revealed towards the end of the book but not revealed in the portions published by the Times. Mad About the Boy is Fieldings third book since she launched Bridget Joness Diary in 1996 and The Edge of Reason in 1999. With her efforts to stop smoking, her continual diets interrupted by anxiety and her blunders, the character of Bridget Jones entranced millions of readers all over the world and sold 15 million copies in 40 countries. Bridget Joness Diary originated from a column written by the author in The Independent daily newspaper in which she discussed the activities and insecurities of a 30-something female in the British capital in the 1990s. Jen gets Dumber LOS ANGELES: Jennifer Lawrence has reportedly shot a cameo in the forthcoming Dumb And Dumber movie sequel. The Oscar-winning actress spent a day on the set of Dumb And Dumber To in Atlanta, Georgia, to film her guest role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She is said to play a younger version of Kathleen Turners character Fraida Feltcher, a former love interest for the hapless duo played by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Lawrence, who is working nearby on the upcoming blockbuster The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, has previously admitted to being a fan of the original comedy. I know every word to Dumb and Dumber, Step Brothers and Anchorman, she told US talk show host Jimmy Fallon, before reciting lines from the hit 1994 film. Warne insists his innings isnt over just yet LONDON: Elizabeth Hurley reportedly feels cut off from Shane Warnes life. The British actress and model and her cricket-star fiance are believed to be going through a crisis, with speculation rife the former Australian cricketer star has been getting close to his exwife Simone again. It has also been claimed the pair disagreed over where to set up home, with Elizabeth apparently eager to live in England and Warne preferring his native Australia. Shane was often on the phone to Simone in the early hours of the morning. It cant have been easy for Liz. Im sure she felt cut off from his other life, a source told British magazine Grazia. The stars apparently argued about Warnes close relationship with Simone, the mother of his three children. Warne and Hurley had been spending long periods of time apart, she based in the UK, while Warne has been in Australia. During this time, Hurley was said to be unhappy about Warne meeting up regularly with his ex. Warne recently flew out of Australia to meet Hurley for crisis talks in a bid to save their romance amid claims he is determined to save his engagement, and insisting they were not ready to throw the towel in yet. Right royalmovie flop Naomi Watts portrays the Peoples Princess in Diana, a biopic which has been derided by film critics around the world LONDON: Naomi Watts and director Oliver Hirschbiegel have defended their decision to wade into the treacherous waters of Princess Diana biopics, despite a bloodbath on review pages. Watts plays the highly publicised title role in this behind-the-palace-gates look at Dianas relationship with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan. But critics have called the film exploitative and its execution risible. The films abject script provides little for any of the cast to work with, and reviewers have been publishing top-10 lists of the films most cringeworthy moments. Welsh-Australian Watts said she hesitated before accepting the role, saying she was concerned about the reaction to the film. Also the sensitivity of it, the actor told reporters in London. How would people feel about this? But I realised that this story was bound to be told at some point. Hirschbiegel feels it was an important film to make. I very much see it as a correction of the memory really, because I think her legacy had gotten quite confused, the director said. People had forgotten about all the other things she had done and what she stood for while she was alive. The film encompasses the two years between Dianas divorce from Charles and her death in Paris. Hirschbiegel, who was previously lauded for his depiction of Hitlers last days in 2004s Downfall, says the period was a decisive one for the Princess of Wales. Hirschbiegel says the last years of Dianas life have been overshadowed by the circumstances of her death. The film downplays her relationship with Dodi alFayed, with whom she died in 1997, his role is relegated to a rebound fling. The media plays a key role in the films plot. The relationship between Khan, played by Losts Naveen Andrews, and Diana fragments as it becomes evident he is unwilling to be caught up the public obsession with Diana. Ive had tastes of it, she said, of the frustrations and the interference of people following you or obstructing you, or being misunderstood or misquoted or misrepresented by the press. But the film straddles the divide between respect and invasion with little grace, mostly falling into a dull space between. I certainly didnt do anything disrespectful, Hirschbiegel said. But the aim was never to be respectful or to do like a glamorising portrayal of her. This has led to charges of both cashing-in and sentimentalism. Londons Daily Telegraph said the film lacks the courage of its own exploitativeness. But the major criticism of the film has been that it is simply bad. Diana says so little so listlessly that it doesnt particularly offend historians, except by being absolutely terrible, The Guardian wrote. This is the ninth docudrama to examine some aspect of Dianas life and thus far the only one to avoid going straight to TV. Its opening weekend in the UK was estimated to gross a mediocre $1.07 million. Diana will be released in Australia onOctober 10. Jackmans the chap SYDNEY: Hugh Jackman has confirmed hes starring in District 9 director Neill Blomkamps forthcoming sci-fi flick, Chappie. The Australian actor told a press conference at the Zurich Film Festival on Saturday hes been cast in Blomkamps follow-up to 2013s Elysium, according to Screen Daily. I am doing a role in Neills new film, called Chappie, which we shoot in Johannesburg, he said. Im there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year. Chappie will reunite some of the people behind Elysium, including South African actor Sharlto Copley, who is cast as the voice of a robot stolen by gangsters for criminal purposes. The film is due out in early 2015.
