Centralian Advocate, Tuesday, August 27, 2013 15 Television Week Your handy 7 day lift-out Tina twinkles her toes Tina Arena will be a big star attraction on Dancing With The Stars this year Luke Dennehy TINA Arena will be the big name on this years Dancing With The Stars. She has signed on the dotted line for the Channel 7 series, which starts soon, and is already in Melbourne getting ready for the show. The singer said she had always wanted to learn to dance properly. I have always admired the discipline of dance but never trained, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to learn to dance and spend some time back in Melbourne with my family, Arena said. Im also very aware of the fact that everyone who has participated in the show here and abroad has had an amazing time. Arena, who doesnt believe she is a good dancer, said she was ready for the gruelling training. Im also psyching myself up for the body pain thats about to slap me in the face, she said. Im a singer and a musician definitely not a dancer. But Ill give it a shot. I grew up watching MGM, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers . . . why not? The singer said it was great to be working on Aussie TV again. Yes Ive been doing TV for 38 years now, which is frightening, but I started when I was seven, eight years old. This is something new for me and I enjoy challenges. Arena will soon release a new album, Reset, and is writing a book. Its my first album of English originals in more than a decade, she said. Ive had two French albums, which have been really successful and rewarding, but its great to be focusing on new music at home again. The book is finished and comes out in October . . . phew! Kylie tip for Voice KYLIE Minogue (pictured) could be following in sister Danniis footsteps on reality TV after emerging as a frontrunner to join the British version of The Voice. Minogue is in talks to star in the third series of the BBC reality TV singing contest, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The publication cites an insider as saying the pop princess has been shortlisted to appear on the show, although she has yet to officially sign on. If confirmed, the Australian pop star a selfconfessed fan of reality shows will join Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am and crooner Tom Jones on the judging panel. Minogue joined sister Dannii on Sundays episode of The X Factor Australia in the mentoring chair, delivering a ratings hit for the Seven Network. Demi in Glee club DEMI Lovato (pictured) is taking her big voice to Glee. The 21-year-old singeractor will appear in multiple episodes of the shows upcoming fifth season. Glee star Lea Michele tweeted last week that she was excited that two of her very best friends Lovato and Broadway vet Phoebe Strole would appear on the Fox show, and thanked creator Ryan Murphy for making it happen. The show was recently hit by tragedy after star Cory Monteith died of a drug overdose. Monteith, 29, who was dating co-star Michele, was found dead last month in a Vancouver hotel room after overdosing on heroin and alcohol. The new season of Glee premieres September 26 in the US. Tens latest offspring is it a Wonderland or is it in la-la land A scene from the wedding in Wonderlands debut episode Melissa Overman CAN Wonderland replace the hole left in our hearts by Offspring? Network Ten is sure hoping so, considering the popular drama is now on hiatus until next year. The timing could not have been better for Tens big debut with most men glued to the televised sport, leaving women across the country to indulge in Wonderland in all its chick-lit glory. Yep fellas, this one definitely isnt for you. The first episode which was watched by 948,000 viewers lat week served up all the pillars of a good rom-com including a beachside setting, wedding, proposal, breakup and make-out session as well as a bunch of characters with complicated back stories. Whether or not it was the producers intention, the wedding of Steve (Tim Ross) and Dani (Jess Tovey) which was the crux of the opening episode was suitably cheesy and predictable. Hideous, blue bridesmaid dresses. Tick. Self-obsessed bride in ugly spandex. Tick. Best man speech which inappropriately mentions sex. Tick. But what viewers probably werent expecting was the glorious moment when the best mans slightly delusional girlfriend proposed to him by singing Olivia Newton Johns I Honestly Love You in front of all his friends. Gold. This moment and his subsequent rejection of her proposal leads to the unravelling of their relationship and a bet between the best man, Tom, and his mates that he wont sleep with any more of his flatmates for a whole year. Enter Miranda who is not only Steves sister but you guessed it, Toms sexy new flatmate. While there were some genuinely heart-warming scenes, intriguing characters and laugh-out-loud moments, the general feeling from those on social media was meh. But like all first dates you have to get past the formalities before you find out whether the person is worth pursuing or at least buying a second cocktail for and next weeks episode looks great. Episode two promises to delve into the sexual tension between the lovable but fallible Tom and his new flatmate Miranda which with time, might just prove a worthy substitute for Nina and Patrick after all. Or at least an attract ive benchwarmer. What you need to know if you missed it: n Wonderland is the apartment block the characters live in. n The show is set on Sydneys beaches and you will wish longing for summer every time the camera cuts to an aerial shot of golden sand and aqua waves. Plus, you can expect many scenes with characters in bikinis or boardies. n Someone always cries in the toilet at weddings. n Miranda Beaumont (Anna Bamford) has broken up with her fiance and now moved in with her brothers best friend, Tom Wilcox. n Tom is nursing his own broken heart after breaking up with his girlfriend but he cant sleep with Miranda, remember, because hell lose his much-loved car in a bet. Wonderland airs again on Network Ten at 8.30pm tomorrow.
