General News << SUNNewspapers Make your vote count Lets get a flyover at Coolalinga lights, says Mr McKay. NOW we are finally in election mode, get in touch with either party and ask what they are going to give us in the Litchfield area. Make them work for your vote. We need six bridges for the rural area. If we can get them we can save lives. With one life lost already, thats one too many, so help me get $13 million for the bridges via letters, email, text, Facebook and Twitter, or call. Do anything to help make it happen for your community. Chase them up on mail delivery; it is an issue I will be onto when the election is finished. It is something they can help with as the Post Office is federally controlled (I am lead to believe). Everywhere else in Australia has a postal service, why dont we? This will probably be the last time you hear from them until four years from now, but I get to see them. I need your help now to stir them up on these issues and any others you have. We are now truly into the fire season, so please be aware of your firebreaks are they done? Have you cleared enough around your sheds and houses? Are you safe? The good news is, it looks like we are getting closer to doing a trial on chipping your green waste. This is when you can bring in your green waste we chip it while you are there, and you take the chip back home with you. At various times, I will be there to talk to you and gather your thoughts on the idea. I was speaking to the Department of Transport and Works the other day and asked for a flyover at the Coolalinga lights and a roundabout underneath for all the traffic flow that will be there in the future. You can guess what they said, but just planting a seed, now all we have to do is keep watering it and who knows what it will grow in to? I have not heard anything on the Wadham Lagoon flooding issue. I think the Department may have dropped the ball on this, but I will pick it up, throw it back at them and see what happens. Speaking of lagoons, dont forget Knuckeys Lagoon and the paper that is out for you to comment on. It is important as they are suggesting three different scenarios: 1) Leave it as it is; 2) Let the area be subdivided into hectare blocks; 3) Break the area down further to city-block sizes. I am concerned if they go for option two, there will not be enough long-term planning for the drainage around the area of the lagoon, knowing that in the future it will end up as scenario three anyway. That is why I am of the opinion it should be designed for option three now, that way we can ask for a masterplan of how they are going to deal with the run-off and drainage water for the lagoon and the whole area. Have a look and let the department know your thoughts you can make a difference. The Central Ward by-election is this Saturday, August 10. The phone numbers of the candidates are on Litchfield Council website and the electoral roll website. Ring them and have a chat and find out why they are standing. They will be representing your voices and choices, so get to know them so you can choose the best one for your ward. Join my email list so you can receive other Litchfield news and the rest of this letter. Your vote is important. Stand up and make it count. Big cake bake-off IF YOU fancy yourself a bit of a baker, put your talents to good use and join Australias biggest bake-off this month. Celebrities and TV chefs are lining up to take part in the event to raise money for the Red Cross. Actress Kate Ritchie is now in her third year with the Big Cake Bake. Its a deliciously good reason to look forward to August, Ms Ritchie said. Dig out your favourite recipes, get together with friends, family and eat lots of cake to support Red Cross and raise vital donations for disadvantaged people. Ill be baking my buttery cinnamon tea cake to help bake the world a better place. So, throw on your apron, rustle up something edible and hold an event where your mates pay to taste test your creations. To become a Big Cake Bake host register online at www.bigcakebake.org.au
