15 Greening Activities in Katherine Pascale Dettwiller In late January, Raima Baker, NT Remote Clinical School Cultural and Clinical Tutor and Pascale Dettwiller attended a Landcare activity. They were the only ones there (too early!!! At 8am) and they had great fun. They went to a native vegetated area in the centre of Katherine, and under the guidance of the Landcare coordinator and two assistants they started digging out native seedlings. They collected seedlings from the coral bat wing tree and the Yellow Flame Tree and Albizzia lebbeck, a nice shady tree with pink flowers. The tap root of the coral bat wing tree (Erythrina verpertilo) is very long, in comparison with the leaves of the plant that are very delicate and shaped like bat wings. They returned to the Landcare office and potted the seedlings and the seeds. Raima and Pascale felt very good about this early morning activity; being so keen they were invited to participate in three months time to a 4WD outing in the bush to collect more native seedlings. These seedlings will be all taken care of and replanted or sold to the public by Greening Australia. Another activity Katherine Remote Clinical School will commence this year is push biking to work once a month as a group with the students. We all live in the same area and have push bikes and the hospital where the campus is located is only 20 minutes in slow motion!!!
