Crowd: 9,056. Referee: Jarred Gillett. WESTERN Sydney recorded the most impressive win of their short A-League existence last night, handing Adelaide United a 6-1 belting at Parramatta Stadium. After 11 weeks of looking like a side capable of grinding triumphs, low-scoring draws and little more, the Wanderers banged in three goals before half-time to seal their third victory on the trot. Striker Mark Bridge, sidelined from the sides past two wins, slotted a hat-trick including a cracking effort in the second half that curled into the top right corner. The expansion franchise had scored eight goals prior to last night and it was the first time they tallied more than two goals in a game. Rather than go into their shell and protect the lead after the break, Western Sydney proceeded to embarrass Adelaide a side also renowned for their defence. Japanese star Shinji Ono, who helped create two of his sides first-half goals, found the back of the net from a sharp chance in the 52nd minute before Bridge completed his hat-trick. Wanderers coach Tony Popovic ended the carnage soon after when he brought off Ono and Dino Kresinger. The spark went out of the game and Adelaide attacking midfielder Dario Vidosic slipped past the hosts imperious defence and found the back of the net in the 68th minute. The crowd of 9056 was brought to its feet when substitute Joseph Gibbs fired truly in the 90th minute. Ange has Heart in his sights THE missed opportunity still annoys Ange Postecoglou immensely. Taking charge of the Melbourne Victory for the first time, a 42,000 crowd at Etihad Stadium, and his teams pants were pulled down by Melbourne Heart. There were glimpses of what Postecoglou had produced with two-time A-League champions Brisbane Roar in that match in October. But his blistering post-match assessment of the 2-1 defeat showed his bitter disappointment, despite the positive signs. I erase bad memories from my mindset, so I dont think back to that day, Postecoglou said on the eve of tonights return derby between the Victory and Heart. My disappointment was there was 42,000 people there (at Etihad Stadium) that day, and that doesnt happen often. My motto in my coaching career is to take every big opportunity that comes along in your path. Three months later, and Postecoglou has panel beaten the Victory into a decent unit. Not entirely without kinks still to be ironed out, but the Victory sit third on the ladder. The inconsistent Heart are eighth. Holden to be new driving force in State of Origin RUGBY LEAGUE ByPAUL CRAWLEY RUGBY league will cap off a record-breaking year with one final celebration after one of Australias biggest brands last night agreed to a $5 million annual sponsorship deal in 2013. Car giant Holden is set to take over as the naming rights sponsor of State of Origin and the Australian Kangaroos. It will be the second biggest sponsorship deal in the games history, behind the recently announced $100 million five-year partnership with Telstra. ARLC interim chief executive Shane Mattiske would not confirm the deal with Holden was done but admitted the game had plenty to cheer this Christmas. We are not in a position to make an announcement in relation to State of Origin or the Kangaroos sponsorships but there has certainly been an incredible amount of interest, he said. Harvey Norman cut its 15-year association with State of Origin in October but it is understood this new deal is worth twice that annually. Harvey Norman paid just over $2 million for Origin, while its believed the VBKangaroo deal was worth about $400,000 a year. Mattiske added: Wed always been confident that Origin would attract a high level of interest and significant value, and we are confident that we will be able to make a firm announcement early in the new year once our negotiations are finalised. A Holden spokesman said last night that Holden is revamping its marketing to allow it to sell more Australianbuilt cars. As such we are considering a number of multimillion-dollar marketing opportunities.
