Elders general manager Chris Deutrom said his team wanted its last marketing initiative of the year not only to give back to its clients but also to those less fortunate. So they settled on a mad dash shopping spree in Palmerston Target and a donation to Targets Operation Santa. Operation Santa is a joint in itiative between Target and Uniting Care and has been running for 21 years. Their goal is to collect 100,000 gifts Australia-wide. Theres more than two mill ion Australians living in poverty and of that 500,000 are kids who wont get Christmas presents this year, Mr Deutrom said. My kids have never missed out on getting a Christmas present and its hard to fathom kids waking up on Christmas day and not having presents. This is why we got involved in Operation Santa. It is our chance to give back. Three lucky Elders clients won the Elders Real Estate Shopping Spree. They had the opportunity to go wild in Target for four minutes, grabbing as much gear as they could. The shopping spreewas held after-hours last Monday night. Once the clients had their turn, six children were also given four minutes to fill a trolley with toys to be donated to Operation Santa. Our six little shoppers did an amazing job in their four minutes, which actually ended up being five minutes as we couldnt get them out of the toy department, Mr Deutrom said. Their trolley was over flowing and in the end they needed three trolleys to fit everything in. Palmerston Targets store manager Mark Guster said thanks to Elders donations they had easily beaten last years Operation Santa effort. We hope that Elders choose to be involved in Operation Santa again next year, Mr Guster said. Dennis Matthewswas one of the three Elders Real Estate Shopping Spreewinners. He said he was absolutely elated to have won and more so when he discovered Elders was making a donation to Operation Santa. I was told by she-whomust-be-obeyed what we would be getting, Mr Matthews said. We actually went down to have a look at what would be suitable for the house beforehand. Mr Matthews and his wife Roz walked away with $1420 worth of Target merchandise after a mad dash through the kitchen, bedroom and toy sections of the store. Mr Deutrom said he planned to run the Elders Real Estate Shopping Spree again next year. He said he hoped to see more real estate agencies come on board for the charity aspect of the promotion. If you are interested in donating a present to Operation Santa you can do so in store at Target. Donations are welcome right up until tomorrow.
