Connar Bridgeford, 12, broke the tibia and fibula in his right leg and eight bones in his foot. He also suffered a compound fracture in the foot with a bone protruding through the skin. Connar broke bones in his left foot and got friction burns on both legs. He was a passenger in the buggy last Friday when it tipped on a property at Acacia Hills, 60km south of Darwin. The roll bars crushed his legs. His dad, Wayne Bridgeford, was one of the Territorys most decorated motorbike racers in the 1980s and 1990s. He competed in England. Mr Bridgeford said his sons injuries would take a long time to heal. The boy will be in a wheelchair for six weeks and up to six months in plaster. Connar, who is recovering in Royal Darwin Hospital, began motorbike racing at the age of five. He was the NT champion in the flat track competition in the 65cc category in 2010. Connar is a good little rider but it is going to be a setback for him, his dad said. And he is still keen to race it hasnt put him off. I have always been involved in motorbike riding and racing. Its good for boys it keeps them off the streets. Mr Bridgeford said it was still too early to tell if there would be permanent damage, but doctors think Connar will recover well. His grandfather, Frank Bridgeford, races speedway bikes at Bagot Park and scrambles at the Hidden Valley Raceway. Santa heads to Outback SANTA gave his reindeer a well-deserved rest yesterday and flew around remote communities with Airnorth. He visited Elcho Island, Maningrida and Milingimbi in Arnhem Land. More than 400 children turned out to meet him. Airnorth boss Michael Bridge said: When you see how the kids react when they spot Santa getting off the plane, it reminds you of what Christmas is truly about.
