For more information, visit www.denmanmarine.com.au Thewhole aim is for an easily-sailed, easily-handled, good-performing boat ANOTHER Swallow design and Tasmanian-built sailing boat has been launched on to the Australian market. Kettering boat builders Denman Marine have just completed a BayCruiser 23 and undertaken successful sea trials, and have trailed the boat to its new owners in South Australia. It has already created interest there, and the sea trials and build here in Tasmania have prompted inquiries locally as well as interstate, company director Andrew Denman said. It had been a similar story with another Swallow design, a Bay Raider day boat built by Denman Marine and shipped to New Zealand earlier this year, which has elicited inquiries there. Mr Denman said the latest timber/foam composite BayCruiser was a classically styled addition to the Swallow fleet that performed well and was easy to sail. The 6.98m boat was sailed with a centreboard and with up to 500 litres of water ballast. With the board down, it drew 1.5m and with it up, 0.3m. UK-based Swallow boats specialise in a range of day boats and trailer sailers that are built in Australia under licence by Denman Marine. The water ballast in the BC23 can be taken on or drained while under way, either manually or through an easy to use electric pumping system. With the ballast out the boat is still self-righting from a 90-degree knockdown, and with it in she has an angle of vanishing stability of 130 degrees, Mr Denman said. The carbon fibre mast and boom carried a fully battened mainsail and a fractionally rigged headsail. There is also an optional asymmetric spinnaker flown from a carbon fibre bow pole, he said. The whole aim is for an easily-sailed, easily-handled, good-performing boat. The towing weight on the custom trailer is 1300kg and set-up time 15 minutes. Auxiliary power comes from a motor up to 6hp, in this case a 4-stroke Mercury outboard mounted in a well on the centreline. Down below the layout includes two large quarter berths, a large V-berth and a small galley. o Prices for the latest Swallow boat in Australian waters start from $73,000, and further information in available by visiting www.denmanmarine.com.au.
