The Ron Phillips-trained chaser claimed the popular Winnellie Park feature in stylish fashion when he beat home the Jamie Hosking pair Rocky Rebel and Mufasa. It was the son of Reggemites 10th career win from 40 starts and his sixth over Darwin greyhound racings distance trip. He took his career earnings to $11,560, the bulk of which have been earned in the Top End for his list of owners, who include renowned racecaller Craig Sant. Benny Mite provided the second leg of a race-to-race double for Phillips, who won the previous event, the Sage Contracting Dash (312m) with What About Jenna. Punters were smiling when the heavily supported Puppy Eyes made light work of his rivals in the last for trainer Brian Kelleher. Sent out a $2.20 favourite, Puppy Eyes proved too strong for a gallant Got The Look. Cosmic Lie provided the upset result with her first career victory at start 27 and paid $17.10 on TattsBet. Interest in NT-born talent James Gallaugher, 12, has been dubbed the next Usain Bolt and is also a talented league player By IAN BUTTERWORTH DARWIN-born James Gallaugher is proving to be as talented on the running track as he is with the football on a rugby league paddock. The 12-year-old indigenous schoolboy, now residing in the NSW south coast town of Ulladulla, has been tipped as having the potential to be the greatest sprinter we have ever had and is also the focus of attention of NRL scouts. The youngster has been dubbed the next Usain Bolt and has impressed his athletics coach Scott Richardson, himself a three-times national age champion who won a Pan Pacific Games gold medal. He is a freak and I mean that in the very best way, Richardson said. Gallaugher recently ran 100m in 11.72 seconds faster than any time recorded in the US or Australia for his age group. The time has already attracted the interest of talent scouts with the Michael Johnson Spire Athletics Institute in Ohio, making contact. They said they are more than willing to have him go to school there or attend a training camp, Gallaughers mother said. I think he is too young to go to school over there so we are going to send him over in July next year for a training camp. Aussie sprint legend Melinda Gainsford-Taylor is also impressed, but is concerned that NRL clubs will win a bidding war for him. Thats an incredible time (11.72) for him and what they need to do is really nurture him hes obviously a talent, she said. We also have to be careful of rugby league obviously theyll be knocking at the door. Five NRL clubs have shown interest in signing Gallaugher, who already plays for NSW juniors.
