From the Defence School Transition Aide (DSTA) I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and welcome you to a new year at Wanguri Primary School. My name is Nikki Robson and my role in the school, whether you are new or have been here for a while, is to make school life for you and your child/ children as smooth as possible. My role as DSTA is to support: your child/childrens transition into the NT education system and Wanguri Primary School, your child/childrens educational requirements - through the Education Assistance Scheme (where applicable), your child/childrens emotional needs - especially during times of parental absence due to deployment, exercise, course etc. your child/childrens social needs - through school and other activities tailored to their needs, your familys connection to the broader Defence, School and Darwin Community as well as the Defence Community Organisation and Veterans and Veterans Families Counseling Service. I am at the school between 8.30 am 2.00 am on Monday, Thursday and Friday. I can, however; arrange to be at the school at different times if you would like to make an appointment with me. I can be contacted at the school on 08 8927 1655 or by email at nicola.robson@ntschools.net. I will be sending out some information to each family in the next week or so - please let me know if you do not receive it. I am planning to provide social opportunities for you and your family to meet other Defence families at Wanguri and will provide further information to you via the newsletter. One event to note for the diary is The Defence Community Organisations annual Welcome to the Top End Community Services Expo and Family Day on Sunday 24 Feb, between 10 am and 1pm at the Palmerston Recreation Centre (cnr Frances Street and The Boulevard, Palmerston). It is an excellent event filled with activities and stalls from sporting and other organisations in Darwin and the surrounding areas. More information can be found on the DCO website at www.defence.gov.au/dco. Nikki Robson 8927 1655 Kitchen Garden - Ms Belinda Draper Our Outdoor Kitchen Garden is looking beautiful with our Basil, Eggplants, Beans, Sweet Potatoes and Paw Paws flourishing. This year we are planning to sell some of our produce along with seedlings of various herbs and vegetables so you can grow your own at home! Wed love donations of egg cartons, yoghurt containers, old plastic plant pots or any other gardening materials or recycled containers you may have no further use for. You can drop them off at the front office or give them directly to Ms Draper on Tuesdays. Happy gardening! Theyre back! Remember your apples on Thursdays and Fridays!
