Dillon Guymala AFL calls meeting to discuss fall in indigenous recruitment TERRITORIAN Xavier Clarke will be a major player in the AFLs development meeting in Melbourne today. The league is meeting to discuss ways of improving indigenous recruitment. AFL indigenous coordinator Clarke, AFL multicultural boss Jason Mifsud, and AIS-AFL Academy coaches Michael OLoughlin and Chris Johnson will join forces to find ways of improving participation rates at the elite level. The recent fall in indigenous players being drafted, highlighted by the failure of Western Australian youngster Dayle Garlett to find an AFL team, has forced the agenda. The number of indigenous players on AFL lists now stands at about nine per cent, down from a peak of 11 per cent. The Territory saw its biggest fall of participation in a single year with eight players coming off AFL lists in 2012 all of them indigenous. Three indigenous players were chosen in Novembers NAB AFL Draft, and two others were chosen in Tuesdays Rookie Draft. A further three Territorians Jed Anderson (Hawthorn), Jake Neade (Port Adelaide) and Dominic Barry (Melbourne) were selected in pre-draft trades. Raphael Clarke, Kelvin Williams and Justin Belyuen Bullet Cooper have been added to the side that ended the Tiwi Bombers 16-game winning streak last week. Ben AhMat is a welcome addition to to a Districts side looking to snap a two-game losing streak. Waratahs get veteran midfielder Lincoln Withers and forward Chris Baksh back for the annual Battle of the Beaches clash with Nightcliff at Gardens Oval. Palmerstons AFL connection became stronger when former Geelong and Essendon forward Brent Prismall was added to the Magpies starting 22 for tomorrows 2.15pm game against Wanderers. Prismall is a good mate of another former Bomber, Ricky Dyson, who made his NTFL debut last week. The Eagles will be without last weeks six-goal hero Shannon Motlop, but wingman Simon Bates is a welcome addition. The Tiwi Bombers made nine changes to their side for Sundays game against Darwin on Bathurst Island. Forward Gerrard Cunningham is the main omission for the Islanders.
