Moline 2012 The weather was fantastic for the 29th Annual Moline Classic. Hot dry days and cool clear nights greeted the many competitors, families and friends who made the 45km trek along the Jabiru highway to the Moline Golf course. Whilst they were down in numbers this year, the Creekies were still well represented with approxi mately 30 revellers pitching camp around Pine Creek Gully. Saturday saw 9 Creekies teeing off in the Stroke competition. Ryan Jersey Bull will well remember his first Moline classic by making good use of his entry fee and taking out the NAGA award with a tiring 106 shots off the stick. Those extra strokes definitely helped Ryans swing as he made a huge improve ment to his game in the Sunday Ambrose comp and acquitted himself well. Playing out of his skin and below his handicap, Tyrone Fountain came within 3 strokes of taking out the coveted Green Jacket and the overall winners trophy well done Tyrone, Runner-up was an awesome re sult. Honorary Creekie, Judy Spafford produced another fine effort and was also rewarded with the Runner Up prize in the Ladies Gross comp. PJ Spafford, once again provided his unique brand of humour and entertainment. It was great to see them back after a couple of years absence. As usual, Pine Creek Gully hosted the Saturday evening festivities and entertainment and once we must thank Chris and Tammy and their band of volunteers for starting the evening with a blast. Bunny cranked things up on the guitar and soon had everyone rocking. Thanks to Minnie and Kimmy for jumping up for a sing and to Lenny from Darwin who rocked the house down with his deft guitar and vocal skills. Sunday is the 6 player Ambrose comp and 2 teams from Pine Creek chased the ball around the course on a very hot and dry day, but sadly neither made it to the podium, however, everyone had a great time. Moline novices Wayne and Minnie Pohler and family were originally only staying on the Friday night but had such a good time that they were still camped there on Monday morning. Debutants Nigel & Sue Povey thoroughly enjoyed their first Moline Classic and both were looking forward to returning next year. There are many people who must be thanked for organising such a wonderful weekend. Thanks to Stuart Ross and his hardworking band of volunteers from the Moline Golf Club who worked tirelessly to get everything done. Thanks to the Pine Creek Turf Club for their kind donation of shirts and hats. Thanks to Phil Thommo & Maree Thompson and Tropical Refrigeration for their kind donation of equipment, machinery, coolrooms, labour and all the other things they do each year in making the week end a success. Thanks to Dixon Hire in Darwin for their kind donation of the Generator. A big thanks to Harry Gabriel whose countless voluntary hours always ensures Pine Creek Gully is clean and tidy and ready to go every Moline Classic Weekend. Thanks to Chris and Tammy for the Saturday night light show. Thanks to Minnie and Wayne for their portable P.A system. Thanks to Kimmy and the boys and everyone else who came along and had such a great time. Bunny PS: Thanks to all those donors who made a generous donation towards the purchase of our camps 12v In verter.
