But those days are gone. This is an outstanding product from Hyundai, designed with the driver firmly in mind. Getting in to the i40 poses no problems whatsoever. Despite the low-slung, sleek, sculpted looks, there is plenty of headroom once inside the drivers cab. At 64, this is something I tend to obsess about when in a vehicle. Even with the drivers seat pushed all the way back, there is ample legroom for passengers in the rear seat. The futuristic dash that greets you is well laid out and easy to navigate. Thus it was with the radio tuned to the ABC that I contentedly listened to day one of the First Test between Australia and South Africa at the Gabba while taking this good-looking vehicle for a spin around the traps. Cruising the metro area was in almost complete silence with just a hint of road noise on the open road. The Hyundai i40 looks good from all sides front and rear included with the twin exhaust giving it a bit of a mongrel attitude. In some online forums there are complaints about the absence of satellite navigation and plaintive cries of why isnt it standard but, for me, this is a minor bugbear. As with the plethora of smartphones currently on the market, youd just be doubling up anyway. This vehicle is well worth the price and will be a tough competitor for all other midsized sedans on the market. It doesnt hold back when it comes to features, either. A real funky acronym is the AFLS (Adaptive Front Light System) which, unfortunately, I was unable to properly test. But the boys at the dealership raved about it.
