Its brand is now recognised as Australias oldest in aluminium boats, its craft having undergone the transition from timber to fibreglass and then to aluminium. They are now being manufactured at the Telwater Group factory in the Gold Coast Marine Centre at Coomera. Among the modern Savage range is the 4.85m Piranha open fishing boat. The Piranha has been cleverly designed to satisfy the most discerning fishing boat enthusiast. Among the added safety and performance features is the reverse chine, which contributes to extra lift and stability of the Piranha hull. The designers have also offered three options for helming, centre or side console and the tiller-steer model that opens up a more accepted fisher-friendly space in the cockpit. There is no doubt that the Savage research and design team has taken some special notes about what its rivals offer in similar-size angling packages and it has produced what promises to become a market leader with the buyer who wants to own a no-nonsense angling platform. The strongly con structed hull has a threeyear factory warranty and such is the attention to design that the Piranha ticks all the boxes when compared with rivals. The stock standard version of the Piranha 4.85m Savage equipped with a 70-litre fuel tank and powered by a 60-horsepower pod-mounted engine has a fitout that is designed to allow the space to safely stow a cast net, crab pots, rods and tackle boxes. A custom-designed 33-litre live bait well and the spacious side stowage pockets complete what is regarded as a truly professionally designed and built fishing dinghy. Factory options of a tran som step and grab rail and a Mark 5X Fish finder plus a sun-protecting bimini are also available to complete an impressive entry-level family fishing boat package. More than 20,000 people turned out to the second annual expo, held over three days. Gold Coast City Marina reported selling at least $4 million worth of boats, including a $2.9 million 20m Hampton Endurance 680 to a Sunshine Coast buyer. Riviera sold a $1 million 43 Flybridge and expects a New Zealand couple will sign a deal to buy a $2 million 58 Sport today. Princess found a buyer for a $1 million V53 sport yacht while AMI Marine Queensland state manager David Tanner reported selling large numbers of desalination equipment, marine sanitation systems and satellite televisions. Weve sold well in excess of what we would see at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. I think this is the future of boat shows in Australia, he said. Crowds were also wowed by an aerial performance by the RAAF Roulettes and the soaring heights of demonstrators strapped to Jetlev water jetpacks. It has exceeded all my expectations, Expo vice-president Dean Leigh-Smith said. There has been some serious commerce done here and the sky is the limit for growth. Organiser Stephen Milne said the event could grow into an international expo while exhibitors hailed it the best show result since before the global financial crisis. Maritimo USdealer LUXURY boat maker Maritimo has increased its presence in the US after appointing a dealer in the mid-Atlantic. EPIC Yachting, established in 2006, will market the Gold Coast boats from North Carolina to Delaware. Maritimo US president Dave Northrop said EPIC Yachting had the service capabilities to support Maritimo boats. Maritimo Australia sales and marketing manager Greg Haines said it continued to increase its market share in the US.
