ServiceActivity5Collectionofdataandresearchoncompletedsuicides andattemptedsuicidesinCentralAustraliainordertodevelopevidencebased strategies LifePromotioncollectsinformationoncompletedsuicidesprovidedbythepoliceatthetimeof theincident.ThisinformationisdevelopedintoannualexcelspreadsheetsandisprovidedtoNT Governmentandotherrelevantorganisationsonrequest. AtthebeginningofeachyeartheinformationispresentedtotheSteeringCommitteeasan opportunitytoanalyseitseffectiveness. AttheAugust2007SteeringcommitteeitwasagreedthatLifepromotionwouldcreateflow chartsabouttheInteragencyResponseProceduresforcompletedandattemptedsuicides.Thatwe wouldamendtheAttemptsproceduretoinclude:asacourtesy,thereferredtoservicewillcontact theservicethatpassedonthereferral.Thishasbeendone. TheSteeringcommitteehasnotbeenabletosignoffontheflowchartregardingattempted suicideshowever,duetocrucialstaffbeingabsentfrommeetings. Discussionshavetakenplaceregardingaresearchprojectthatcouldattempttocapturethe admissionstotheAliceSpringshospitalrelatedtosuiciderisk.Thisinformationcouldbetterinform usofthenatureoftheseadmissions,therepeatadmissionsandtheassessment,treatmentand followupsupportprovided. LifePromotionTeamChanges KristySchubertsteppedoutofherroleasLifePromotionOfficerinFebruary2008.Kristyhadbeen withtheprogramfor2yearsandhasimplementedsomesignificantinnovationsinthistimeincluding thecollectionofwrittenmaterialfromlocalpeopleontheissueofsuicide,thesuicideasathreat workshopandfollowupredthreatbooklet,thesuicideawarenesstrainingprogram,resourcesof supportforpeopleaftersuicide,suicideresponseprotocolguidelinesandthefacilitationofnew ideasforsuicidepreventionday.ShecontinuestoworkwithLifePromotionasaconsultanttoassist withthecompletionofprojectwork. BrianKennedystartedwiththeLifePromotioninApril2008andbringswithhimyearsofexperience inTAFEtrainingandeducationandaninterestinthewelfareandmentalhealthofyoungpeoplein particular.HisorientationbeganwithatripuptoTennantCreekandhisassistancewiththeASIST workshopdeliveredbyLaurencia.
