14 Risk management Council annually reviews its policies and procedures to ensure currency and staff familiarity. Council has an internal audit committee and its scope and purpose includes interviewing internal control and risk management. In addition to identifying and planning for the playground equipment needs within Palmerston, the Playground Strategy also contains a maintenance schedule to ensure equipment is serviced and removed or replaced as required. The Local Area Traffic Management program includes traffic and road safety audits in local streets. Council has an Occupational Health and Safety Committee which is established to consider any issues raised by staff. Each section has at least one staff member trained to be first aid officers and fire wardens. Fire alarms are regularly serviced and tested. Staff also receive job-specific training to ensure they are able to carry out their roles effectively, which may include updates to financial requirements, new computer programs and dealing with difficult situations and customer service. Council has a regular maintenance schedule for park lighting, irrigation, pruning and landscaping, lakes and other community facilities. Incidents reported were investigated and insurance claims made where necessary. Information and privacy Council complied with the NT Information Act and Privacy Principles (2002). The Privacy and Information Statements are available on Councils website and at reception. A reference to where these statements can be found is included on all Council forms that ask for personal information. Two applications were made under the Act in the 2008/09 financial year.
