12/01/2012 Workplace Health & Safety Advisory Council Annual Report 2010-11 page 9 Subcommittees In March 2009, WHSAC decided to form three subcommittees pursuant to section 27 of the Act. WHSAC decided that its subcommittees would be industry based, and identified the following industries: Transport and Storage; Construction; and Resources. At the August 2010 meeting the Council decided to form a Agricultural and Primary Industry sub committee to focus on actions to lower the rate of injury and deaths in this sector. The terms of reference for WHSAC subcommittees are as follows: Membership of subcommittees Membership of a subcommittee is determined by the WHSAC. Potential members of a WHSAC subcommittee need not be a member of the WHSAC, but must: be nominated by a WHSAC member; be available to contribute to the work of the subcommittee by attending meetings and undertaking research as required; have a particular interest or expertise in the subject area of the subcommittee; and/or represent others who have a particular interest or expertise in the subject area of the subcommittee. Each subcommittee should include representatives of organisations representing employers and organisations representing employees in equal or approximately equal number. Each subcommittee should include representation from NT WorkSafe and any other relevant NT Government regulator. Chair of subcommittees The WHSAC will nominate two WHSAC members as Chair and Deputy Chair of a WHSAC subcommittee. Objectives of subcommittees The objectives of a WHSAC subcommittee are to assist the WHSAC to carry out its functions under the Act.
