Classic cars get set to roar around The Valley TOURING CARS ByGREYMORRIS THE big muscle cars of yesteryear will be in action at Hidden Valley this weekend. Touring Car champions John Bowe and Jim Richards in a Mustang and an American built Javelin head the list. Fast forward to Brad Tilley in his immaculately presented GTHO Falcon and Andrew Rocket Miedecke in his Camaro and the start line in the three-race program begins to resemble the stuff of legends. Hidden Valley represents Round 3 of the eight-round 2012 series. Brett Youldens 1972 HQ Monaro leads the class A field coming into Darwin. Queenslander Mark King has switched from the blue camp to the red and will start Race 1 on Friday in a HQ GTS. Reigning series champion Bowe is keen to regain lost points and improve his championship hopes. Bowe made a clean sweep of the races in 2008 and wants a repeat. Tilleys green Falcon GTHO is back on track after sitting out the season looking for investor dollars. As one of a select group to race in the series from day one, Tilleys Green Machine will be a welcome sight on the grid and in pit paddock. Elder statesman Graham Alexanders 1968 HT Monaro is also ready to race this week. Multiple truck champion and Whiteline Transport Racings team owner Bob Middleton is back behind the wheel of his Chevrolet Camaro. The Touring Car Masters roar into action today with two practice sessions at 9.10am and 2.15pm . The first race is set down for 1.50pm tomorrow before morning and afternoon racing on Sunday. FOOTROT FLATS Jamie Whincup is upset after getting caught in a crash last round and wants a change of fortune in Darwin Picture: MARK HORSBURGH Whincup wants win V8SUPERCARS FUMING after a costly crash during the previous round in Phillip Island, V8 Supercar champion Jamie Whincup wants to set things straight at Hidden Valley this weekend. Whincup heads in the Darwin round trailing Ford driver Will Davison by 10 points in the championship standings and sitting second isnt something the three-time title winner is comfortable with. The TeamVodafone driver admitted hes still upset after being the innocent victim of a crash involving Davison and Tim Slade at Phillip Island, which allowed the Ford Performance Racing driver to leapfrog him into the title lead. Im pissed off 10 points down in the championship due to getting taken out in Phillip Island, Whincup said. I feel like I should be 120 ahead, assuming I got the 130 in that race. Weve had a good start to the year. We should be leading but, because the oppositions taken us out, thats why were running second. Im not pissed off at any particular driver. There was a crash between Will and Tim Slade, and Ill let them work out between themselves who was at blame there but Im pretty pissed off at the situation. Hopefully, we can rectify that this weekend. Whincup, a two-time race winner in Darwin, has finished in the top 10 in 13 of the 15 races in the Top End but is yet to record a pole position here. Ive always liked Darwin, he said. Had some up and down results here, so hopefully over this weekend we can have a clean run. Its actually one track where theres been real good variety (in winners). Its going to be close. Qualifyings going to be really important and, yeah, bring on the heat.
