Horns tooted and engines grumbled as the convoy snaked its way up the Stuart Highway to Daly St, through the city and back to the Hidden Valley track. Adah Durant, 10, and her family travelled from Tasmania for the event. The Mark Winterbottom supporter said her favourite part was the noise. Jacob Carroll, 5, said his favourite part was the speed. I go for whoever is winning, he said. My favourite colour is red red goes fast. Lauryn McGuinness, 12, said she simply liked the thrill of the red versus blue rivalry. She said her favourite driver was Russell Ingall, one of only three drivers to have raced at all 15 Darwin events. Lauryns sister Josie, 10, said she liked the ontrack action. Crashes are awesome, she said. HRT pilot and former champion James Courtney said it was great to be back in Darwin. I love it here, the weather is always perfect, he said. We had a test at Winton (in country Victoria) a few weeks ago, so its nice to get up here for the warm weather. And while her Supercar counterparts were busy signing autographs, V8 ute driver Amy Swanson faced up to her fears at Crocosaurus Cove by taking a dive in the cage of death. At 17, the avid equestrian rider had to make a choice between horses and horse power. Now 24, she is the only female in the ute field and not scared of going up against the blokes.
