The HMS Alligator was commanded by Sir Gordon Bremer (January 1838-March 1840), Captain W.W. Chambers (January-March 1840) and Captain A. Kuper (March-September 1840). During this time the ship was closely associated with the establishment of the Port Essington settlement.
